It's a general oversimplification to think that De Zerbi would work here, Brighton just have the perfect football culture that any manager could potentially go into and do well, can't say the same for Spurs.
If they have a perfect football culture, doesn’t that mean that De Zerbi is a good manager if a club like Brighton decided to appoint him?

I can honestly see a Summer 2021 style fiasco unfolding here quite quickly.

Perhaps not quite on the full scale of Summer 2021, but there’s certainly an air of inevitability about it all…

Everything is on ice until that Paratici hearing on the 19th.

I'm a bit pessimistic we'll have perfect clarity even then (it doesn't sound like we're getting a final ruling?), but it's premature to really say anything about anything until we pass that marker.

I have to say I don’t think this is true at all. The minute we show some attacking intent from the off a new manager would be welcome. The ‘match going fans’ have sat through 4 years of a defensive mindset
We'll all be on board, until the players decide they want to sit back and protect what they have
And then another coach rants in a presser then gets sacked.

Paratici should be gone from the club, or at the very least suspended indefinitely until this entire case and all his subsequent hearings have run their course.

He should have absolutely no bearing on who our next manager is.

As Alasdair Gold said, all the Juventus executives that were implicated in this scandal immediately resigned from their roles at Juve, yet this guy was still business as usual at Spurs.
The whole thing is an absolute farce.

I was reading an article on City and Woolwich’s football structures earlier, both of their academy’s are set up with the goal of developing players to slot straight into Pep and Arteta’s systems.

The bottom line is, our whole youth academy system should be based around the play style, formation, and individual instructions of the manager we bring in. Our next manager must be in for the long run.

Bridging the gap between the first team and academy should be one of the first things on the agenda

That's fine, but I'm just trying to game out the timeline of what WILL happen, not necessarily what SHOULD.

This is partially what a DOF is supposed to do. A DOF is supposed to have a system of play in mind, is supposed to recruit players that fit that system, is supposed to hire coaches that believe in that system, is supposed to develop players to fit that system, etc.

It's one of the big concerns I've had with Paratici (outside some of the more obvious things). He seems to bring in players he believes will be great (and hey, he's had some definite hits) but he doesn't seem to be recruiting players based upon an underlying belief in a system.

The more damning thing though is his recruitment of managers. Every manager search he's led has been about bringing in, generically, the highest level manager that will accept the position. It's not about finding a coach that will suit the system/style of football he wants to play, it's about the biggest name or the best resume.

no, the academy should be there teaching the players how to play in different systems, maybe first half one system second half a different one
the young players need to be able to feel happy playing 3-4-3, or 4-4-2, or any formation, happy to recieve the ball under pressure and know they can pass the 10-20 yds left or right footed
its not about winning thing at that age, its about devolping the whole player

Not sure that's entirely fair tbh.

Pace and passing ability both seem like consistent through-lines of all the moves Paratici has made. And having a squad rich with those qualities can make multiple different tactical systems work. We were woefully deficient in both when he arrived.

The tension I see is that Paratici loves to make lots of moves, buy up lots of players, keep a loan army going, that was his and Beppe Marotta's style at Juve. Make a lot of bets and get big rewards for the ones that hit. Levy's Spurs just refuse to operate that way, so the stakes are higher on any given move and the pieces need to fit together much more snugly.

This appointment is arguably the most important of Levy’s tenure as chairman. This is make or break for Kane staying, and we all know Levy’s just relied on Kane doing what he does and hope the rest follow.

Nuno was a disaster, and Kane saw that from the off. A repeat of that and it’ll be the same all over again.

Kane might want to go regardless, and if he does then we should sell him this summer. Putting it off to allow him to go for free next summer would only delay the job of replacing and rebuilding his absence.

In fairness it's hard to tell at this point because he's only had 4 windows and the whole Conte effect was strong.

Let's look at the recruitment of Emerson and Spence/Porro. I think these players illustrate the point I'm trying to make. Emerson was recruited for Nuno because Nuno wanted to play a back 4, and Emerson honestly is probably a pretty good RB. Then, when Nuno does, Conte wants to play a back 3, so he needs attacking RWBs and we recruit Spence/Porro.

My whole point is that we should only have recruited one of those sets of players, based upon the system that Paratici envisions us playing.

Like I said, the more damning aspect is his recruitment of managers, but I still think we can see his lack of underlying tactical philosophy in some of the player recruitment.

Good post, as is the one you responded to.

Buying to the system of a manager lacks credibility when their way of playing is rare and when they are known for short termism and volatility.

Again however, it's us as fans who create some of these decisions in my opinion.

Conte or Potter or De Zherbi at the time the vacancy came up?

No to tyranny bashing Brendan.

Marcelo Gallardo. As close to Pochettino 1.0 as spurs could get. With the added bonus of having competed and won titles on his continent. Charismatic technically astute coach who had his River team able to switch formations and personnel whilst retaining an identity and most importantly a full believer in Blanchflowers axiom about going out and attacking your oponents.
If even half of that is true, what the heck are we waiting for? Christmas??

This is the way I’m reading it (not ITK just my drunken assumptions). We out Conte because we think there might be a chance of getting Tuchel. Bayern get wind and out Nagelsmann to grab Tuchel. We sniff round Nagelsmann instead and Chelscum out Potter to try and get Nagelsmann. Enrique is also liked but no one is signing at moment because at the end of the season the Madrid and PSG jobs will be up for grabs and the front runners for those two prime jobs are Nagelsmann, Enrique and Poch. We will probable end up with slot
