Just watched Celtic vs Aberdeen. Terrible standard and Aberdeen finished 3rd !!
Surely we need a manager with PL experience.

It was good football for a spell of about 2 months last season but it wasn't swash buckling like we saw under Redknapp or Pochettino.
From about Round 30, when Doherty was fully fit and we started playing to his strengths....

Spam - win 3-1
Barcodes - win 5-1
Villa - win 4-0 (Doherty injured)
Brighton lose 0-1
Brentford 0-0 (lucky)
Leics win 3-1
Dippers away 1-1
Goons 3-0, smashed them
Burnley win 1-0
Narch 5-0

Apart from 2 matches when I'd say we hadn't adapted to Doherty's particular wing back strengths, I thought we played some very good stuff.

25 goals.

If Doherty hadn't been crocked by that bastard we may well have beaten Brighton and Brentford too

Someone remind me why it was a good reason to get rid of him

I just find the whole Nagelsmann thing weird and I actually think we can use the nonsense from the press to think a bit more clearly about it. Although this is probably me being wildly optimistic but I’m trying to stick to the facts.

1. We know there is a clause in his contract which says Bayern are due a lot of money if he signs for another club before the end of the season.

2. We are heavily linked with him for weeks and refute that we’ve met. It is the only time the club have pushed anything via the media. Seems sensible for us to distance ourselves if we don’t want Munich to think we are speaking to him.

3. Since then we haven’t appointed a DOF.

4. We spoke to Slot & the Feyenoord DOF but it never got as far as us speaking to Feyenoord over compensation because they didn’t want to leave. Both men said that. We don’t know when.

5. We still haven’t appointed a manager and Nagelsmann is sitting right there. He’s signed for nobody else either. Maybe other clubs are playing the same game as us.

All that might be complete bollocks but that’s without journalists spin and agent agendas. That’s the current picture. If we are sitting here after next weekend when all the seasons end, still with no manager, I wouldn’t be surprised if links to Nagelsmann appear. Especially if no DOF has been appointed before then either.

I like your version, but unfortunately the club did try and get slot it seems, and didn't like the price and/or slot played Levy.
So it's more likely that once again Levy just doesn't know what he's doing with either the coach or the DF

Yep, that's the two months.

I entirely understand, and indeed approve, the concept of a DoF providing continuity of footballing philosophy & recruitment (incl for the Academy) as Head Coaches come & go.

But the concept, and the real world experience, are a million miles apart. Again, I argue the experience at our club has produced chaos, not continuity.

Arnesen had to appoint Jol as Santini's sidekick to get him into the club, and then Levy fired Jol at half time. And Frankie's fax machine flirtations with the chavs broke that relationship.

Comolli & AVB? I hardly look back on that as a great era in the history of our famous club.

Also, please prove me wrong, but I never thought the Baldini - Poch relationship was that strong.

Indeed, a quick google reminds me that Poch allegedly got Baldini out of the club.

But you have to aim for the best practice.

And look what happened when Poch got his way. Was the beginning of his own downfall.

Yes but if we can't attract a decent manager because none of them want to work for him, then that's a different case again.
I think that there are there complicating and related factors. Levy is obviously notoriously difficult but that didn’t scare off Mourinho or Conte, and their firings weren‘t too controversial except for the timing of Mourinho’s so I don’t know if that would scare others away.

I think the scope of the project is what would scare them away, and that coupled with uncertainty over reporting structures and players would be more frightening to a candidate. The squad is bloated with bad players. We have no DoF. No idea over Kane’s long term future at the club. Plus they would know they are walking into a super toxic point between the club and supporters.

Levy is absolutely a massive consideration for anyone, but I think the bigger issue might be between the scope of the rebuild and whether or not they can have the time to do what is needed.

Jose had an answer, in his own head, to "if Poch couldn't do it, how can I?"

The situation didn't appear as bad then, pre-Covid it looked like the club was entering a bright new stadium era, and he's got a, uh, generous opinion of himself.

Conte had an answer, in his own head, to "if Poch and Jose couldn't do it, how can I?"

15 million answers, for starters, and he was also made a bunch of crazy promises about backing and the club basically gave him everything he wanted.

The situation has gotten worse. Kane. The club also seems to be more resistant to promising the moon to a candidate. The broken promises to Conte makes those claims pretty worthless anyway. And the candidate pool is not full of people who change the atmosphere through sheer force of fame.

And now the question is "if Poch and Jose AND Conte couldn't do it, how can I?"
