Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I managed to persuade Mrs SS to watch MOTD last night, on account of Harry's record. Now, if you dont know Mrs SS (and I hope you don't*) she has never watched a game of football in her life. I managed to persuade her that it was only highlights and we were first up, so it really wouldn't hurt.

And so she asks me "If Harry is such a legend, why haven't Spurs won any trophies since you dragged me to a pub to watch the League Cup final all those years ago?"

Right on cue, MOTD shows Danny's back header which Hugo sort of scrambles onto the bar, and nearly knocks in the rebound as he collects the loose ball. "That right there is what it is to support Spurs," says I. The utterly brilliant followed by moments of utter calamity that would be funny if it didn't happen so often to us...

Vids?

That’s just the hornlocking Mick, easy to do and get involved with, you’ve had your fair share too, as have I.
You and I tend to stand up for the things we believe in, and are prepared to make the point we stand for as reasonably as we can. Some people are hectoring bullies and some posters are constantly bitching and moaning. Some posters don't understand that the more they comment the less people take notice.
I try to talk to people as if they were sat in the room with me, and when they can't talk with any degree of respect then they get the same back.
The ones that make me laugh are the ones who insult me and then complain when they get what they deserve as if it was unfair.
And then there's mindblown. I'm actually worried for the poor tortured soul. I hope he summons the courage to seek help.

The seasons we chased the title by rights we should have been aiming at top 4.

We have reached those goals way ahead of schedule and it shouldn't be seen as failure not winning anything yet.

We've set our standards pretty high and it's important to build on that and eventually turn potential into silverware.

Lots of players have improved greatly under Poch, but honestly only Kane is constantly developing his game to even higher levels, showing true, flawless consistency, and outdoing his already ridiculously high standards each year.

I think a few other key players need to take a long look at Harry and emulate his application. Jan is another solid all round performer, but many key players are prone to very costly dips in form.
We also lack true belief in ourselves, so I don't think it's a case of "any other team" would have won something by now, just a case of we're getting there.

Doesn't this just prove we have great individual talent but something missing team wise?

No idea what it is and if Pochettino knew then we'd have won something.

Doesn't help that over the course of 3 years we've had to deal with changing formations, freak incidents (Leicester etc), bedding new players in, getting used to more high profile games (Champions League), more injuries, losing key players etc.
Fecking euros and injuries

This is a very good post in my opinion.

Of course there is something that has to believe Kane was simply destined but like you I think our issue, if that is fair to say is that Kane has just been incredibly consistent and without gripe or contractual issue and that tbis seasom he is only matched by Vertonghen in that regard.

So the last but hardest bit is crossing that last line which is being collectively good enough at key times and a wee bit luckier.

Love this post! My spurs for the last 4 generations or so family sat and watched it and we all thought the same about that header and how it perfectly sums up being a spurs supporter....sublime to the ridiculous!

I was reading this and was getting ready to point out just how good Jan has been and then you hit it.

Son should also be included here though. I think he has improved MASSIVELY since first signing with us.

Wish I could say I came from 4 generations of Spurs fans. My Gran was a Spur, and two of my uncles. Most of my family are Gillingham fans.

My dad never showed any interest in football, then a few years ago he showed up at my door wearing a twat hat (AKA a Woolwich beanie). Made him sleep in his car.

I swear it could only be us where we would have the individual and collective stats that we have put together in the last 3 seasons and not won a fcuking thing club-wise.

Kane, last season's goal difference, Alli's first to 50 goals for a midfielder, our home record etc....

It must be a jinx or we are just very unlucky.
I think the crux of it is that our first choice eleven is as good as anyone's, with the possible exception of City.

But, while our depth is "OKish", it is not at the same level as Chelsea or Man U. So we struggle if we get two injuries at once, and wins turn into draws.

Couple that with the fact that the other members of the "big 6" raise their game against us (simply because it's us) and it becomes understandable.

I am entering my 27th year as a supporter and we've never had it so good in that time-frame. Still think Poch will become our Ferguson, given time.

I remember once having a conversation with a friend who has never been a football fan but we were talking about the Olympics and he made the point that there was a strange level of focus on the 100m sprint, way more than any other of the track events. I have often thought he had a point. The point being some are so focused on one thing they fail to appreciate the whole show.

If all you do is go to the game for just goals then you miss some of the moments of wonder. Great moves, there was an outrageous passing move out from Sanchez against Burnley, there was a world class save from Lloris in the Southampton game too. Talk to a fan of United about how winning is all that matters and you will hear how bored of Jose they are.

This season other teams have got better equipped to play this league and play us, we have have not looked as strong or consistent, that is in my opinion mainly down to injury and the loss of form of some of our midfield players.

At the moment the silverware argument is being thrown around for one reason, no one wants to admit how good Harry Kane is and as they have no loyalty or interest in us, they desperately want him to leave Spurs because it makes us significantly weaker, much like the previous Bale narrative.

We can easily fall in to the trap of calling Spurs a failure. Even if we win the FA Cup this year (most realistic hope), we will be cast as failures, when it is quite conceivable that City could do the quadruple, by that logic making everyone but City a failure.

Also you will see the next strange period of hyper focus, the transfer window. I am sure we can improve our depth but what would be way more significant is Toby and Victor getting fit and Dembele finding his old form and fitness too. These are players proven to make us effective.

A new player needs time to bed in and that's why a new player at this point of the season is a gamble, no benefit of preseason or getting adjusted to the training regime and the squad. Yet we will all be led in the same story that who we buy our sell right now is the most important thing in football yet we demonstrably have a world class player who has not arrived by transfer but by our own youth section.

It's easy to find excuses to not enjoy this team. I know it has not all been great too, that West Brom game was awful. Point being we are still a strong outfit, we are fun to watch most of the time and for our resources we are massively over achieving. It's not 'double think' to enjoy what we have, it's double think to frame our season and squad a failure for not being City or even Chelsea.

Imagine what this place would have looked like in the 90's

Sammy would have come on here and self combusted and the gloom, doom and despondency merchants would have drowned in an orgy of self congratulatory carping and "telling it like it is"
Imagine the fun they would have in being able to tell us how high their standards were, and how that kind of shit might have been OK for us, but for their needs it just wouldn't be good enough.

On the plus front I wouldn't have to look at just how many of my posts mindblown has dug up to disagree with. Currently he is more prolific than Harry Kane, who can only manage hat tricks. Mindblown can disagree with 20 of my posts at a time.

I wouldn't mind but he promised me that I had won the internet, and it still hasn't arrived.

Mindblown is a shitcunt who doesn't know fuckall about football. He should be following lawn bowls, more his level.

I think it's fair to say we've over achieved in recent seasons, success was so close it became tangible but alas luck wasn't on our side. It's great fun being a spurs supporter now and we've got Poch to thank for that.

I wonder where the EPL is going with all this money being thrown around, I hope there's a reaction and clubs go back to basics and develop their youth academies. I hope clubs start focusing on finding young talent again. Levy must look at the 30 odd million we paid for Sanchez and think we got a deal.

I wonder how good Sissoko would be at right back? Positives - Fast, powerful, strong tackler. Negatives - passing and possibly crossing (never seen him try)
Both of the alternatives have more flaws defensively.
Alli and Eriksen are suffering from their success IMHO, if they get shut down then you stop Kane's supply and our creativity. The city game was all about that - and coupled with loss of our defensive strength meant that we were neutered.
Some posters put too much effort in beating on players lack of effort, without considering the fact that there are savvy managers out there who know how to marshall their more limited resources, to concentrate on choking the creativity out of ours.
This season has been all about loss of key performers rather than loss of individual form - from my perspective.

I would, of course, love a trophy but I’m not that bothered by it myself. I’m really more concerned about what it might mean for our retention of players like Kane.

It's not just the individual stats though.

Pretty sure I read that we've got more points in the calendar year this year than anyone else. The same goes for 2016 as well I'm pretty sure.

I think I also read that we have more points than anyone over the last 2 or 3 seasons. ALso, last year our points tally would have been enough to win the League in something like half the seasons of the PL.

It's a great time to be a Spurs fan, but we have been unlucky when it comes to having the most points over the course of an individual season. Then you look at the FA Cup semi where we were clearly the better side despite losing and it can get a bit frustrating that we havent won something yet with this side.

I think Man City have the most points this calendar year. We managed to do it in 2016 - but Woolwich have managed to do it the years before that too. Are they unlucky? Or are the calendar year stats just bollocks?

If we were good enough - we'd have won something.

Not sure on points haul in 2017 but if true, what more can we do?
