Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Expanding on this further, and apologies if this is not the place for it or it is being discussed elsewhere, but to me the take away from Ben White shouldn't be so much that he is overrated but why are there so few English CB's that can play the ball, what can be done about it and is this not an area that Spurs could exploit potentially?

Obviously the French are currently killing it with this type of CB and they could potentially go 10 deep, maybe more, before you would get an English CB ahead of a French player. Why can't the English develop even one or two at this level? Who is currently the best Stones? Is there anyone else?

I am not as familiar with the youth systems over there as I am sure that many are, but surely this is something Spurs could focus on. There must be a ton of young, athletic, big kids in the London area they can identify early on and develop into this type of player.

Probably a discussion for a different area, and I am likely missing a ton that other will point out, but it seems like the English system is still stuck in the past with regards to needing, big, tough, hard men in the middle that yell and boss the other guys around when it is not the way teams are succeeding currently.

I think him being English is a big factor. He is not perfect but there are very few English CB's that are even average on the ball, so seeing one that is comfortable playing the ball, even if it comes with errors, means that he will get a lot of hype.

As long as there is a HG quota being English will have a benefit when evaluating players for the PL.
I see. Well, he seems a bit small and weak to me. In terms of defending crosses or corners, I am not sure he is much of an asset. And I have seen bits of 1 v 1 defending from him that worried me. But if Liverpool are interested in him, maybe there is something there.

I think there are certainly better options and will admit when I suggest we get him his HG status is a big part of it.

Maybe I am being hopefully when I watch and see the potential more than the flaws. I also think I am so fed up with the CB's (outside of Toby) we have and the links to more plodders, that when I see someone who I don't cringe when they play the ball it may skew my assessment of them way too much.

Who would you say your top 5 favourite coaches are currently?
I don't have a top 5, but purely as coaches, Hassenhuttl and Bielsa are blowing my mind. I like Guardiola and Klopp.

But I will tell you who needs to be put on Fraud Watch pretty sharpish - Dean Smith.

I would like to see the back of all the coaches who are trying to stick the head of English football in the toilet. Steve Bruce, Big Sam, Moyes, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Hodgson and Dyche.

How about you?

Not a chance that is a penalty, the guy just fell over on his own.

Actually on replay the Southampton player kicked the defender on his own.

I like the way Bielsa, Hassenhuttl and Potter have their respective clubs set up - people think it's easy to just tell a bunch of players to press well and play football without knowing how hard it is to coach players that, let alone players who aren't the greatest.

But I also quite like Julien Stephan, Marco Rose and Marcelino too

I could be as far out as a lighthouse here, but I think Potter needs to go away and study German football methods. I would like to see more aggression and a lot more verticality from that Brighton side.

maybe he has been, but instead of the heavy metal brigade, he studied the more Mozart approach of Bosz?

You could say the same about midfielders, France goes about 15 deep, England has some really promising AM’s but is utterly bereft of quality CM’s, and the most promising is getting his education in Germany.

I give a little more credit for them in MF because at least I see some players that came through/are coming through that have shown some promise and just didn't live up to it, where as with the CB's I don't even see anyone close outside of maybe the aforementioned White.

But yes I think England likely could use improvement all over, although not sure a Canadian saying that on this site will go over well!

The Bellingham situation really frustrates me because it seemed/s like a perfect player for us, although his dad seems like a bit of a piece of work and it was likely he would never come here. We could have offered the games that he was supposedly looking for, he would have been what we desperately needed.

Hopefully anyone interested in bringing in Vestergaard had their eyes closed on that goal, or they watched it and changed their mind.
