Has the football World gone mad ?
I remember when £1m was a lot of money for a centre forward.
Now I'm sure that Maddison is a good player but describing £40m as a bargain price ???
Money is spoiling our game. When the freedom of contract came in, it was thought that transfer fees would be replaced by longer deals on much higher wages. Now we have BOTH !!

What a bizarre career.

Incidentally Neves and Milenkovic-Savic would have been a pitch-perfect midfield two for Conte, alas.

Lazio practically had their begging bowl out to Europe for years trying to attract a bid for him, and nobody ever came close to biting, even when the likes of United would pay out silly money just for an in-form name.

Get the distinct feeling clubs never rated him as much as fans. Which I also think about Neves, funnily enough. Good for a worldie and a long pass but zero mobility or ball carrying ability. Highlight reel midfielders who were at their level, makes sense the only big payday they can get is at a highlight reel league.

I do think others fans will have lost track of Liverpool. Klopp is still for me the best manager pound for pound in the league (in terms of getting the most out of what he has).

As you say Liverpools midfield was declining, like us end of Pochettino era, it was done. Getting Lavia along with Mcallister and szoboszlai and their midfield is basically fixed. Beyond that they could be a 1-2 more players short of another title challenge or at least 90+ points season.

Operative word being basically. Or I would say potentially.

It's been seen a million times. Signing players and making it work is a world apart. Granted, it's easier with a top manager, but making three new CMs gel over a summer is a big ask for anyone.
