Rather than just considering who we want in, seems it might be useful to consider who moves on to make room for the incomers - and how many might move.
This is the current squad as at 31 December 2019.
Gk’s - Lloris or Vorm, Gazzaniga, ( Vorm is as an emergency GK in place of Lloris)
CB’s - Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth (u21)
FB’s - Aurier, Walker Peters (Club), Rose (Club), Davies
CM’s - Ndombele, Winks (Club), Dier, Sissoko, Wanyama, Skipp (u21)
AM’s - Eriksen, Dele (Assn), Son, Moura, Lamela. Lo Celso, Sessegnon (Assn)
FWD’s – Kane (Club) Parrott
UEFA Player Designation Summary
Players are categorised by the UEFA designation of Club trained (Club) and Trained by other FA Affiliated Clubs (Assn) or Under 21 (u21), where there is no designation the player is Overseas Trained
Overseas Trained (maximum 17) : 17 (including Parrott and Vorm or Lloris)
Club Trained : 4. (Kane, Winks, Walker-Peters, Rose)
Trained by other FA Affiliated Club : 2 ( Dele, Sessegnon )
U21’s – 2 (Foyth, Skipp, )
Total - 25 Players (including Vorm or Lloris nd Parrott)
Note - as Parrott has been with Spurs for less than 2 years he is not regarded as an u21' player but an Overseas Trained player. Next season he will revert to being an u21'. Same rule means that Sessegnon will be categorised as an Association Trained player and not an u,21. whilst taking advantage of that rule means Foyth is an u21' this season.
When Lloris is declared fit, he will replace Vorm in the squad.
Under PL rules Davies is an HG player rather than overseas trained, whilst Parrott is an u21' rather than overseas trained. This means that we have 2 spare places for overseas trained players in the squad. However with any player signed to fill a vacant overseas trained player slot under PL definitions being unable to be registered for CL, Spurs are unlikely to utilise this unless Spurs decide to prioritise PL over CL, which would be a last resort
Not included in the above squad are a few youngsters who might be given more prominent positions if we cannot sign players we wish _- such as Tanganga, Clark and Amos who would take up HG places or u21' spots.
The Rebuild
The key to the rebuild is :
1. There are 2 spare places for HG players, however only a few candidates to fill these places are of sufficient quality for Spurs or are youngsters for the future.
Players we might see being moved on are KWP (JM doesn't fancy) and Rose
2. There are no spare spaces for Overseas trained players. Consequently we need to move on a few players and the most likely candidates I would suggest are :
-. Wanyama
- Eriksen.
- Lamela -. (if Eriksen stays, the ever injured Lamela would be a prime candidate to leave)
- Sissoko (but he is injured,)
- Foyth ,,- Next season he will be an overseas trained player and might be sacrificed as we will again need more space in the squad. I suspect Tanganga would take his squad place.
After that it would have to be one in and one out for the same position. Players might include :
-. Alderweireld
- Aurier.
- Moura (but only if we could get a good winger/ striker in to replace him.
I don't see any of the other players being moved on
Problem in moving any of the above players on is the player has to consent to the move - Wanyama turned down a perfectly good move to Club Bruge in the summer despite a healthy £65k wages offer.
So of the above list I'm not optimistic that more than 2 or maybe 3 overseas trained players will be moved on. - and it might be less. That of course limits the number of players coming in.
Lots would like to see a striker, RB, DM, and multiple other positions. Think they could be disappointed ?
Thoughts ?
