The squad on the UEFA site is interesting :

Overseas trained players - Lloris, Gollini, Doherty, Reguilon, Romero, Sanchez, Rodon, Dier, Davies, Paskotsi, Hojbjerg, Son, Gil, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Bergwijn, Moura (Total 17)

Club Trained Players - Austin, Tanganga, Carter Vickers, Winks, Kane (Total 5)

Other Association Trained - Dele, Sessegnon, Clarke (Total 3)

No u21's listed yet - they can be nominated by Spurs the day before the match (ie Wednesday) but Devine will not be amongst them as he cannot qualify as u21 under UEFA rules as he has not completed 2 seasons at Spurs. Expect Dane Scarlett and Nile John to be included though, as wil be Oliver Skipp and probably Harvey White and Malachi Fagan-Walcott (the last five on the basis of their squad numbers being announced)

Big surprise is that Aurier is NOT included in the squad..... and nor Ndombele.

Surely rotation makes sense as most players will not be fit enough to play weekend, mid week, weekend.

If Romero is fit he starts, otherwise Carter-Vickers with over 100 Championship games should be more than good enough. Gil should be fit enough after Olympics. Only starters v ManCity in this team are Skipp and Bergwijn ...... but Clarke on bench to sub Bergwijn at HT, and probably White for Skipp.

Kane starts assuming he is fit enough.... but if not Scarlett subs him

Gollini
Doherty, Romero, Rodon, Davies
Winks, Skipp, Lo Celso
Bergwijn, Kane (c), Gil

Austin, Paskotsi, CCV, Sessegnon, White, John, Clarke, Son, Scarlett

Any clarity on whether Rodon or Sessegnon are fit for this? Obviously weren’t on the bench today but would’ve thought they’d be good options here

I'd be starting a complete different XI that played today.

We are playing Wolves on the sunday and if we bring all those players with and play them , they will be leggy which is not ideal early in the season.

With that in mind :

Gollini
Doherty Romero Rodon Davies
Lo Celso Winks Ndombele (IF FIT)
Clarke Kane (IF FIT) Gil

Now that might not work. A lot of players who haven't played with each other so have some others on the bench as assurance. Sure.

Sissoko, Aurier , Sessegnon and Scarlett and John. 5 players who wouldn't have started either game but will be in the squad hopefully.

Hard to predict though. Ndombele/Kane hopefully get into that squad as they clearly need to build up fitness.

Ultimately if we cock this game up which will be very hard we always have a 2nd leg at home where maybe we can play a stronger XI if necessary.

Ndomble and Aurier NOT in UEFA squad - see OP

Hope that Nuno has been training the 'B' team together over last week or two - although Gil and Romero will obviously not have been training with the others for that long.

To put things into perspective, last season Rio Ave (another Portuguese club, same level or below Paços Ferreira, they ended up being relegated) only lost to Milan on penalties, Europa League play-off round. Rio Ave should have won, considering how well they played. Milan only scored the goal that took the game to penalties on the very last second of extra-time.

Spurs should win this tie relatively easily, but... they're no mugs

Weird one tho as surely Sissoko is on his way too so why list him?

Idk about all this but good observation.

We are the team with the best rank playing this competition.

No Spanish teams and our biggest oposition could be.... Roma from Mourinho.

This is a huge oportunity to bring a european trophy to home...

Roma is actually one place above us with 90 points versus Spurs 88 points - so we are 2nd ranked .in this competition.

Huge opportunity as you say - also to give game time to out 'B teamers' and youngsters at least through to end of group stages, providing Nuno can coach a separate team to the first team playing in PL,

Agreed. I'd like us to take this competition as seriously as our playing squad will permit. It can't be at the expense of league form at this stage but if we can get a few experienced players in there it might make a difference.

On the possibly ignorant assumption that this could be an easy game, I’d be tempted to give the core team a run-out to sharpen up formations, tactics, connections etc. Possibly give Scarlett and the new signings some minutes. The flip side is that the likes of Lucas, Dele and Son are probably knackered after yesterday. Bergy could do with a goal. Badly.

as said above the B team need to train together, said it before we need to focus A team on EPL with the cups used to keep other players match fit those that do well get minutes in EPL team show players they are not just B players
