Player Pape Sarr

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Sarr gets a pass because he is a kid who is running on fumes. If you are a viewer and don't see that then you need glasses.
When Bents gets back and Biss is replaced and maybe Gray gets pushed into MF we will see him release his potential.
Dont know why you are saying he is fatigued. Just checked that he played around 60% of available minutes in all competitions this season. Which confirms my eye test - that he often is either subbed at 60-70 minute, or just start at bench.
Midfield is area where Ange rotates preety well.

He is just inconsistent this season like whole team. Had a spell like month ago when was very good, but right now he is preety average. Major problem is his possession ability. He can't do half turns, and often hides from the ball. Imo he looks best when Maddison is on and drops deep. Otherwise, whoever plays at 6 is exposed because Sarr does not help him during build-up.

He would be great 6 with better ball ability. But as a 8, he might find himself behind Bergvall/Gray/Maddison/Deki/Bentancura preety soon in picking order .

I was one that thought he would go to the top.

When he first started getting minutes for us, I felt like he had that certain something about the way he moved. A silkiness to his play that you can only really see through eye tests.

But over the last year plus, I feel his technical ability has really fallen off a cliff. He still has plenty of value but I’m not so sure he has the ceiling I thought he did a couple years ago.

Probs cause like most of the players he's being forced to play a lot of minutes with no rest due to lack of depth and the suicidal system of play

You could see the exhaustion in the team in that second half v the scum. Players are almost all running on empty

Not sure he has the ceiling some claim. Some great attributes but just not quite good enough technically.
Yeah I’m with you on this. I remember reading generational talent and all that pish but he’s a million miles away from that.
He’s not technically great but has a great engine to get up and down the pitch. He’ll be a good premier league player but not one that has the high ceiling that some think.

Bents has missed untold games this season. When he starts playing regularly we will see an improvement in a rested Sarr IMO.

Ability on the ball is a significant factor in determining any player's ceiling at this age, including keepers. He can't get away with being another Sissoko no matter where he plays in midfield. Like any player with glaring holes in his game, he faces the danger of needing all stars to align to be able to perform.

At the moment, he looks like a prototypical box-to-box who can't really play any other role well. Not good enough on the ball or has the positional awareness/discipline to play as a holding midfielder, and obviously not an attacking midfielder. This means you need to surround him with very specific types for him to play well, in a midfield setup where there are clear boundaries and a strong division of labour between players. Except swiss army knife type generalists are becoming more and more common, while specialists are fizzling out.

Unless he diversifies his skillset, he may end up trying to swim against the current. Time is on his side though.

I think he will be fine and again point to what I have said on more than one occasion. Every big win we have had against any good side he has been central to. Second his lack of a set role is almost as a direct result of the mad hatters tea party

we currently have. I have the same reservation about retaining Ange regards Sarr, VDV, Udogie. They are not being coached the fundamentals of their various positions on the current roller coaster.

It's fine getting good young players but who is actually educating them...Mile Jedinak

In the first goal he gave the ball away under not-so-great pressure in a dangerous area, then put himself totally out of play by attempting to jump into a challenge that was never his. He easily lost his position in the second goal as well, but it was a poor collective effort so I'm not sure how much blame he deserves for that.

Not sure if this is me being spoiled by Gray and Bergvall, but he shouldn’t be looking this raw at 22. These are very fundamental errors in judgment and execution that he’s making.

I know what we witnessed today was a manager induced chaos more than anything, so I’m wary of being overly critical of individual players. But does he genuinely not know the differences between playing in a 2 man midfield and in a 3 man midfield?

He can be good at pressing, that's it. Clueless at defensive positioning, tracking runners, smart decision making, and his footballing ability consists of a handful of moments over a whole season.

Another who is just a pure waste of time in trying to build with them in place.

The answer to the question in your last sentence seems like a "no". Seems to play purely by his individual instinct, but I don't know what Ange does, if anything, to help him hone his tactical awareness.

I'm at that point where generally I'll refrain from judging some players because I think Ange is making them worse, however I don't see this guy becoming anything special.

He's all legs and not much else.
