Nonsense. A few degrees either way on the angle, or a few centimetres difference in where he connects etc, can all have a huge impact on the result. Sometimes you see player do something incredibly dangerous, and get lucky with no one being hurt, another time someone will do something relatively innocuous and someone will get badly hurt. Sorry but that statement you've made there is really naive / stupid.

"It was reckless and the perpetrator got his just deserts- move on" - this I do absolutely agree with. The lad doesn't seem like a thug at all, but what he did was dangerous and he needs to learn not to do it (which I believe he has said he intends to - learn from it I mean).
Naive and stupid. Thanks. So the 25 years of active competitive football that I played taught me nothing did it ?
Actually- it really did, I took plenty of kicks to the shin and as I said, still have some bloody impressive scars to prove it, so I'll thank you to keep your patronising remarks to yourself thanks. I might not have played at that level but I think you will find that one thing that is pretty much a great leveller is a badly timed tackle and full set of studs to the shin.
PEH took the tackle, but seems to have been more pissed off about the comments that were said subsequently. Some of the comments on here are just laughable, probably by fat kids that have probably only played the game on a play station.

If I were DaSilva I'd get him a new shinpad quickly - probably a pair of them.
Instead of the lightweight plastic/carbon fibre shinpads they wear now, he really needed one of the old school, bamboo, foam and leatherette ones from the 60s.

PEH would have come out of it without a scratch and the Brentford player would have done his ankle - out for a month.

... full set of studs to the shin...
So you don't agree that one full set of studs to the shin could break someone's leg, and another full set of studs to the shin in a game the next week could leave someone with nothing but a cut and scar? You don't agree that basically the same tackle in two different occurrences could have two very different outcomes for no reason other than basically good/bad luck?

If that's what you believe then that's fine, I suggest we agree to disagree.

Apologies for phrasing my response rudely in my last post by btw, that was unnecessary. We're all Spurs at the end of the day, and we're all entitled to hold different opinions. :)

PS RE: Fat kids on playstations etc... I actually broke tib & fib in a uni game back in the early 90s, and still have the metal pin in today (knee to ankle). But I don't think that has any bearing on my view on this - I just think the same tackle can have two different outcomes on different days, and looking at the PEH one from the other night, I honestly believe that on another day it could have broken his leg. I don't believe the guy meant it, but that's not what we're debating.

Absolutely. The rubbish they wear these days is no protection at all. A good pair of shinpads never slowed anybody down.

To be fair to Mike Dean, I also thought it wasn't much of a foul at normal speed but slowed down its totally reckless but unintentional , so VAR wins the day during that particular game.
I don't think it was unintentional at all. He knew exactly what he was doing.

All I know is what I experienced throughout years of playing the game mostly as a fullback, so making tackles and being involved in a fair share of similar incidents. I'm not an orthapaedist specialising in repetitive stress testing so I cant accurately answer your question, and I suspect that you cant either (unless you are one) but I've seen a lot of tackles go in and legs can bend a long way before they break.
PEH had a long scratch on his shin consistent with a long scrape, not a high impact single point of incident, which is more likely to cause a fracture or a double break like yours.
I do a lot of skiing and skydiving, both sports that subject lower limbs to a lot of stress and injury, and over the years I have seen a lot of damage to a lot of legs, so I do have a reasonable amount of knowledge for a layman about what I was looking at.
The worst tackle I have ever witnessed in professional football was the one Deli Alli did on the Gent player at Wembley a few years ago. How that guys tib/fib didn't go still amazes me. Never seen a leg bend like that and not snap.

I use to wear those ones that covers your ankles as well.
Makes me have no fear of getting studs below the shinpad and I play better consequently.

Also makes it so I don't need tape for them to stay up, reducing pressure (= venous stasis) and thus lactic acid build up.

Some think you get a worse touch, but that's nonsense. Getting not injured is much better for your football ability in the long run.

You couldn’t play in them. Not properly

well not if you wanted to do a bit with the ball

getting kicked doesn’t really hurt during the game imo

Just need to get used to them, though I can get them feeling clunky if you are not used to them.
I tried em all for about 10 mins in training. Really not for me ...... but I also used to wear the bear minimum required as shin pads also

anything that felt slightly awkward seemed to affect me

socks rolled down 70’s World Cup was my style.

Talking about inbound and outbound transfers, the enthusiasm of the Ajax coach quickly flares up. Why? The name Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is mentioned. Ajax was so close to capturing the 25-year-old midfielder, who is now praised every week by none other than Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho.

'I really wanted him to be there. We were really close to that, 'Ten Hag begins the reconstruction. 'We spoke to him several times. That boy really made our team stronger. Financially we would have come out, I think. He could also go to other clubs, but wanted to come to Ajax. But then Tottenham came before him and we still got the short straw.

Feel like he's dropped off considerably of late during this bas spell. Getting beat alot out of position and losing the ball. Hopefully gets back to his best soon.
