Is it some kind of scientfic law that Conte must spend £200m per year, or is this a bit made up?

Levy will only hire a coach who thinks the squad is fine and just needs a bit of tinkering and the training cones put out in a different pattern. Mourinho talked up the players and was given the job. He soon found out that they weren't all that. Nuno is a nobody, so he will be a yes man.

We know that Conte is very forthright with his views. I suspect that when he met Levy, he told him that the squad needs a big overhaul because we have a lot of crap players and not very many good ones. Levy doesn't want to hear this.

It is 100% made up. He spent 200m total in 2 years with Inter.

But for people trying to make excuses for Levy fucking it up it sounds like a good number to throw out there to try and justify our lack of ambition as a club.

Seems like they spent pretty wisely too, he delievered a league title and they got half that £200m back when selling Lukaku, as opposed to the £4.75 we will get for Ndombele.

History tells us that he demands a certain level of spending and that if/when that dries up he'll fuck straight off....

Of course the number is ball-park, but:

The spent 167m in his first window at Chelsea and proceeded to moan about not having enough the moment the window closed. A further 234m was spent the following summer. Still not happy and left at the end of the season.

Inter broke the bank for him (172m), covid struck and he fucked off at the first sign of trouble.

Conte as a chequebook manager is a but of a myth. He spent a lot at Chelsea, like every single manager at Chelsea does.

Moreso than being someone who demands a massive spend he demands you buy the players that work within his system,

It is funny to see people talk about him needing massive backing when he successfully used Ashley Young in his starting line-up to win Serie A. He will take cheap options and guys who looked done, if they fit in what he wants to do.

He would have demanded money to make changes to our squad, but those changes were needed. None of his rumoured requests were unreasonable or things we couldn't have easily have given him without any risk to the club at all.

He essentially bankrupt Inter just to win a title. Great coach but not for us.

How did Inter break the bank for him?

Chelsea spends for everyone that wasn't a Conte thing it is a Chelsea thing.

How did he bankrupt Inter?

What purchases made under him bankrupt them?

He bought Lukaku for 65m and they sold him for 90m. That was the biggest purchase made when he was there. He brought in Barella for 25m how much could they get for him now at minimum 50m. He bought Hakimi for 40m and then sold him for 80m. Sensi for 20m easily could get that back.

Lazaro fior 22m and Eriksen for 20m are the only "big" signings made that they couldn't get their money back on.

still not sure Conte is the answer but I fear Levy has done so much damage to our reputation (some justified, some not) that getting a top coach with integrity and staying power is highly unlikely.

A young coach with his wits about him is unlikely to risk his career. This means we're looking at damaged good, Like Jose and Nuno but this doesn't work.

There's only so many times you can act like a wanker before your mates stop meeting you down the pub... I fear we could close to that stage now

How did Inter break the bank for him?

It's a figure of speech; meaning spent a fucking lot.

£172m last summer....

Yeh, so they sold some players this summer; but they recruited smartly..... Yet, he's 'above' sticking around and fighting with them after the backing he'd previously received?

Chelsea spends for everyone that wasn't a Conte thing it is a Chelsea thing.

Moaned both summers and then fucked off at the sniff of their transfer ban.

He's high spending/high maintenance.

Just kiss me again and get this over with. 😩

Good point everyone forgets with Conte, the guy improves players, so if you want to sell them you can get money for them.

When you hire a cheap punt manager and performances are shit, the value of your players decreases

Absolutely, but these deluded morons won’t get it through their heads... b bb bbbbUt We CaN’t SpEnD tOo MuCh aT sPuRs wE’rE nOt CiTy

We need to fucking spend and spend a lot if we want to leave this pile of shit squad behind and not fall miles behind the main contenders. Otherwise mediocrity awaits.

The figure of speech should have some accuracy. His spending at Inter hasn't been poor or ridiculously high. He works with teams and has a history of integrating players deemed poor or not good enough previously rather than just demand they are replaced with high priced alternatives.

He left because he felt pissed off with management, like most Inter fans, not because they wouldn't hand him a mountain of cash. He just won the Serie A and felt the way forward was to build on that not tear it down. The same feeling 90% of the footballing world would have as well.

172m what?

Yes he moaned and he won. He earned the right to moan by winning the PL title. He took what was given to him and won. You earn some credit when that happens.

I would love to look at the manager who has the success that he does that isn't "high spending"/high maintenance.
