What’s wrong with a manager that is elite at developing players? How were Ajax doing before ten Hag?
Not so well. They'd failed to win the League for a few years running, and didn't do well in Europe aside from one year under Bosz. Ten Hag does deserve legitimate credit for the step in Ajax's performance under him.

The thing about top level managers is that they all want control of how to shape their squad. With Levy here our only hope is mid-low level coaches like Martinez or Southgate who will be willing to bend over backwards to get back into club football.

All top level coaches like Klopp, Pep, ten Hag, Rodgers and Nagelsmann will want control of their squad. We really are run like shit on the footballing side of things.
Literally none of those guys have control of their squad and recruitment.

Liverpool, City, Ajax, Leicester and RB Leipzig have football operations that do the majority of the squad building work for the managers. The managers obviously have input, and Ten Hag has done a lot at Ajax to build up that infrastructure, but it's more what does the squad need rather than who do the squad need. The club is designed to train and recruit players that fit the manager's philosophy.

That's why Rangnick is a good choice - he'd actually build the football infrastructure Spurs needs to complete.

On the other hand, Mourinho made a great impression on Levy, and charmed the fucking bollocks off many of us, myself included, in his first few weeks here.

Maybe ten Hag told him the squad needs to be gutted, but Levy thinks it's good enough to challenge for the league. The usual. It's very hard to know.
If anyone gets the benefit of the doubt, it's Ten Hag in this case, not Levy.

This is why Rangnick won't happen. Levy won't give up control over footballing operations despite ample evidence the past 3 years that he should.

The banter seems unlimited at this point.

Ten Hag not having the same vision seems like a red flag for Spurs, not Ten Hag.
Not necessarily. Most of us have been happy in a job, but have had chances to go to another. In those situations most people throw out a crazy demand and see if the company will go for it. My guess is ten Hag likes Ajax but decided to chat with Spurs. He relayed that he wanted full control, a shitload of money, and a jaguar and Levy wouldn't go for it.

A sad but true reality. As long as Levy is anywhere near the footballing operations we will always continually follow the same repetitive loop of failure.

If Levy is to remain here (which I hope he doesn't) he needs to step back, so far back that you can't see him with a fucking 10000x magnification scope.

I would argue he should only be in charge of infrastructure, he can't even get naming rights done, should be demoted to looking after the infrastructure operations, should have nothing to do with transfers and nothing to do with money spent in regards to matters on the pitch.

He most definitely should be nowhere NEAR the playing staff or manager.

I can't imagine what having his cynical presence and attitude towards the business of football around the place must feel like for the players.

Literally he is a megalomaniac imo, he just can't relinquish control and he won't because he somehow thinks he is solely responsible for the "success" we have achieved whilst also hiding away from the amount of failure and blaming others for it.

That screams lack of due diligence.

Basing managerial/coaching appointments on a meeting is crazy. Jose was apparently a great interview and Levy just ignored the hundred other red flags from his time at United.

It's a terrible look for Levy and the club.

Nagelsmann
Ten Hag
Rodgers

Things are going well.

Hey, but at least we're in the running for fat frank, so we have that going for us.

I can’t actually believe more people want Potter over Rodgers. Rodgers has consistently got his teams playing really good football for over a decade and one trophies. Potter has……
Has he won anything outside the pub league that is a Rangers-less SPL? Seriously, the last few years have been the absolute definition of a one-horse race.

Potter meanwhile won umpteen promotions and the cup in Sweden with the equivalent of Macclesfield. Beat the Goons at the Death Star too.

Rodgers at Liverpool - well he blew the title in the most ridiculous way. 3 pts at Palace (3-0 up with 10 mins to go) and one at home to Chavs would have done it. And the next season - buying Balotelli? Really? A player that NO ONE has been able to motivate?

By the time he was sacked he'd lost the dressing room, no one was bothering to run.

Potter has never managed a big club, but Rodgers has and failed. Potter as far as I can tell has never lost a dressing room.

The fact that you're one of the most levelheaded posters on here and even you can see the damage Levy is doing to the club speaks volumes imo.

I wonder will Levy be lulled back by the big name of Allegri. seemingly spoke to the goons but demanded too much control....

Sounds ideal for Dan!

No doubt Levy has turned us into a laughing stock. He's about to hire is 10th manager in 20 years. He refused to back Poch and opted for a short term gain, thinking we could maintain the CL. He's absolutely sucking the life out of the club. Until he steps down or at least, steps away from DoF, then it won't get any better.
