Difficult to keep up with this thread but it is not helped by posts re players that should be elsewhere.
Surely if RM decided that Poch was not available then that is dead in the water. If Poch really wanted to leave surely Madrid was a better bet but that is not happening.

City and Chelski got their rich owners before FFP when they could just spend and not need to balance the books. And City is in danger of running afoul of the FFP rules (the PL ones, for one). Now whether they will be sanctioned for it is another story. But that's a far cry from pretending FFP doesn't exist and thinking owners can just pump money in their club.
But that's exactly what City do, their owners pump money into the club via bullshit sponsorships etc. as well as all the off the books stuff that is rumoured. FFP was supposed to mean they got thrown out of the Champions League. They just played in the final. They are doing this in the midst of FFP. And I think Abramovich is as well, given the massive amounts Chelsea spend on transfers, their stadium barely holds 40k. I don't deny they had the jumpstart before FFP rules, but I am saying these cunts are still getting around those rules. Where there is a will, there is a way.

You honestly think the Premier League are going to do anything to them after City basically puled the plug on the Super League? That basically gives a green light for those clubs to get on board with the super league again. The Premier League will create loopholes for the likes of City and Chelsea for that reason.

Meanwhile, Joe Lewis will buy more paintings to add to his $1billion art collection.

BUT...if we are getting Conte, then maybe Uncle Joe has had a change of heart. Either that, or we have somehow got the mother of all naming rights deals incoming.

Conte may have taken a sabbatical in that case like he did after Chelsea.

Sometimes it's good to act decisively, but sometimes it pays to wait and see how things play out. As soon as Conte was out at Inter we were in contact with his people from the sound of it.

Does smell a bit like the refinancing might have been to get him £50M+ sale to work with? To me it does... Make provisional agreement a few days ago, get £75M added to the Loan £25M for Winter Window (let's hope).

I don't think Uncle Joe has had a changed of heart, but the new stadium is a game-changer and will create a lot of new revenue streams: naming rights, NFL, concerts, to name a few. So the club can afford to push out the boat a little further. And Spurs have been operating on a "wages no more than 50-55% of operating income" model for quite a while. That can shift too without adversely impacting the club's financials, especially at the revenue level we have reached, Covid notwithstanding. And I also think we can afford to have a loss in any given year now, something we couldn't (or maybe wouldn't) a few years ago. So plenty of ways to up our spending and "play by the rules."

Poch didn’t exactly play effervescent football. Winning cures most ills.
Surely, one would have to separate the two distinct phases of his tenure ie pre calls for painful rebuild and post. The football of the pre-period was quite nice with swarming attack after attack. Hard to fault him for the latter period IMO. But then again I think most of our players are shit so I would be inclined to give a pass.

Am I right in saying there has been a relaxation of FFP rules because of covid? I'm sure that I read that somewhere. If so, maybe we are about to take advantage of it (well, maybe Joe Lewis is). I'll have to google it, I could well be talking out of my hoop, as usual.

That was for 2020/21 season and even then I think there were some limitations. Moving forward it's "as you were."
