The Euros haven’t been enlarged though? It’s the same amount as last time. They can’t exactly reduce it now, when most teams are already qualified and the fixtures have been decided

Euros were enlarged by the buffoons for 2016 to 24 teams - up 50% from 16 teams.

Yet with 24 teams they still want qualifying rounds before that ?

And trying to fit a 24 team tournament into the summer is a problem at the best of times (Euros 2016 started 10 June and finished 10 July and 4 weeks later PL started - meaning players compromising on the pre-season (which really needs to be a minimum 6 weeks) with 3 weeks for player holidays to fit into June.

Better to go back to 16 teams - benefits players fitness and (dare I say it) the clubs who pay for the players who provide the entertainment at Euros.

Both FIFA and UEFA suffer dramatrically from corruption - not helped by too much money swilling round in them, yet they want more £'s by enlarging both euros and WC despite it being proven they cant even manage properly the money they already have.

Impossible timetable to start the season :

Players back to start pre-season : Monday 17th

First Pre-season Game : Saturday 22 August v Ipswich

Second Pre-Season Game : Friday 28 August v Reading

Third Pre-Season Game : Saturday 29 August v Brighton

UEFA/FA - Players report on Monday 31 August (?) for matches on 5th and 8th September (ie 2 weeks off with Internationals)

PL First Game - Saturday 12th September.

So JM has the players for 2 weeks Pre-season before international break and straight into PL - hope players arrive back fit otherwise the freindlies will be 'walking football' !

Be interesting to see who isn't called up for international duty to see if we can arrange another freindly or two for those not away on internationals - suspect it may be only about 6 from the first team squad plus some Spurs u23's ?.

Not much chance for JM to coach any new formations or tactics.

Rose, Lucas and Son should definitely be available (Asian internationals have been cancelled)

Winks, Lamela, Gazzaniga, Dier, Sissoko, Dele, Foyth, Ndombele and Gedson are all maybes for a call-up.

So we could probably put a team together with some U23s thrown in. Probably something like this if I had to guess:

U23
Gedson-Foyth-U23-Rose
Winks-Dele-Ndombele
Lucas-Son-Lamela

League One side Ipswich Town will be our visitors on Saturday 22 August (kick-off 3pm) before Championship outfit Reading come to N17 on Friday 28 August (kick-off 3pm). Their fellow Championship side, Birmingham City, visit a day later on Saturday 29 August (kick-off 3pm).
