Not sure if toxic positivity, or positively toxic?

Looks like we are looking at running a pre-season tournament with Woolwich and Chelsea this summer instead of travelling around the world like usual. With the idea being to give a lot of the money made to charity.

TBH they should open it up for other London clubs as well. Get QPR, Brentford or Orient involved and make it a nice little tournament.

Be great if we could play some smaller local teams again. Really helps gets kids involved who don't normally get the chance to watch Premier League teams and obviously helps out clubs who have struggled. I remember watching us at St Albans, Stevenage, Kettering, Leyton Orient etc. Hasn't happened for years sadly.

There used to be a London FA Challenge Cup up until the mid 70's where all the professional teams put out their first team in the main.

We were the last winners of it in 73-74.

We were second most successful side in it with 8 wins, Woolwich had 11. but a 16 team tourney with Spurs, Woolwich, West Ham, Chelsea, Palace, Fulham, QPR, Brentford, Charlton, Millwall, Orient, Wimbledon, Dagenham, Sutton, Barnet and Wealdstone or maybe extend to Watford etc. would be great.

Also used to be a London Six-a-side competition at Wembley Arena with first team players which stopped in the mid 80's

That’s a bit disappointing to be honest, I’d much rather our pre-season be against teams we don’t normally play. I would love to see us play smaller local teams rather than the Scum and the other Scum.
Some of my earliest football memories are pre-season friendliest against the likes of Bishops Stortford, Leyton Orient and Stevenage where it was a mix of first team and youth prospects. I’d love to see those types of matches again.

Is the "legends" 6 a side still going?

I’m surprised that Levy is anywhere near this. His sweaty little palms have zero to gain from playing London derbies against teams who will beat us in stadiums with reduced capacity. Imagine giving Chelsea and Woolwich yet more pointless bragging rights over us. As for the charity angle. Nice, but the club has done more than enough this past 18 months and it’s time to start actually acting like a sporting entity, we don’t do that being anywhere near this plod.

With euro 2020 followed by player holidays, and internationals playing in euros will probably only have a couple of weeks pre-season (again), so pre-sason games will start with a lot of fringe players and a sprinkling of youngsters.

Need to wait for euro squads (and copa america etc) to work out which first team players will be available at start pf pre-season.

It will probably have an effect on transfers as well.
I don't expect many players to be moving clubs until after the euros.

An indicative timetable for the summer :

May 23rd - 20/21 Season ends
May 26th - EL Final
May 29th - CL Final
May 30th - Players report to national teams
May 30th-June 11th - International players involved in Euro 2020 or Euro 2021 training
June 11th - July 11th - Euro 2020 (now renamed Euro 2021)
July 12th - August 4th - 3 week break for players involved in Euros (for players in teams knocked out earlier, holiday make start and end earlier)
5th - 14th August 14th - 2 week pre-season Club Pre- Season (should be minimum of 6 weeks)
August 14th - 2021/2022 PL Season Starts

This summer there will also be Copa America and possibly Tokyo Olympics (may be postponed) which will occupy approximately the same time period as Euros

This will result in most players not getting an adequate pre-season for 21/22 (same issues as for 2020/21 season - so expect tired players and risk of player injury)

Also expect most pre-season games to include a number of u21's and fringe players as many regular first team players will be involved in Euro

And players joining Spurs in close season may have limited time to get to know theor team mates - especially those called up for Euros or Copa America. So don't expect them to win many MOTM awards in the first couple of months of 2021/22.

also Barnet and Enfield, IIRC

Last pre-season we played Ipswich, Reading, Birmingham and Watford with whoever in the first team squad was available (after their break) with youngsters including Cirkin, White, Bowden, Devine, Scarlett and Clarke involved joining about 15 first team players.

Within a week or two will be easy enough to see who has been called up for international squads and likely to arrive back to Spurs late.

International calls ups - those not called up will be available for the start of pre-season (if still here of course !), although many countries are announcing squads which will be reduced by a few players next week.

France - Lloris, Sissoko
England - Kane
Netherlands - Bergwijn
Belgium - Alderweireld
Argentina - Lo Celso, Foyth
Republic of Ireland - Doherty, Parrott
Colombia - Sanchez
Wales - Davies, Rodon (and Bale)
Denmark - Hojbjerg (squad to be confirmed)
South Korea - Son (squad being confimed in late June for a tournament running July 23 to August 8)

Gold:
In previous years, Tottenham have had plenty of representatives at summer tournaments and that has meant staggered returns for key players and some subsequent pre-season training camps packed with fringe players and academy products.

However, with players such as Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, Steven Bergwijn, Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Eric Dier all having seen their hopes of heading to the Euros dashed, those six will all be part of pre-season.

In fact, Fonseca could potentially only be missing Harry Kane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Toby Alderweireld, Hugo Lloris, Moussa Sissoko, Joe Rodon and Ben Davies who are at the Euros, as well as Giovani Lo Celso and Davinson Sanchez who are on Copa America duty.

Some of those players will be back sooner than others depending on their nation's progress in their respective competitions.

Spurs could yet decide to head off on a pre-season trip abroad for a game or two, depending on what lucrative offers come their way and also whether international travel for elite sports people allows.

Their local rivals Woolwich are scheduled to play in Orlando in July as well as taking some training time in Scotland beforehand on top of a hoped for warm-weather camp abroad.

Both Spurs and the Gunners have also been involved in talks over a three-team London mini-friendly tournament at their respective stadiums with Chelsea, which will raise money for charities in the capital.
