Priorities

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

My priorities as a fan have changed a bit after the last two league games, in that I don't think there is much point in going for first or second in the Premier League any more. Top 4 and an FA Cup final or Top 4 and a CL semi-final would be a good season and still an improvement on previous years.

We may not have had a priority but we do now. I am livid the Spammers game has been moved to Thursday 4th Jan. We play Tuesday 2nd, 4th and then FA Cup match on Saturday 6th or 7th . Just awaiting a tough draw and that will be that with a knackered or weak team knocked out. Only hope we get the Spammers in the F A Cup and then we both have to play just after the league match.

Halfway into the season and I'm happy to stick with my initial views at this point.

Top 4 will be a tougher fight than I'd hoped for, but if we can get on one of those runs of ours and pick up 7 wins in the next ten....

Still want us to go all out in the CL, and I mean all out, top priority try to win it.

FA Cup is doable even with heavy rotation and would still be a fantastic season to win it.

Cups for me this year, and around the time of the Juve games I'd like to see us rest key players in the PL a bit. Should be really optimizing the squad these next months.

Mid way through the season and my priorities are pretty much the same.

Top four is always a must. Title is over. We should definitely be aiming for 2nd though. Like Pochettino said, I wouldn't take fourth if offered now. We are better then that. If we aim for 2nd and finish 4th, fair enough but we are more than capable.

My beliefs on the FA Cup are always the same. The games fall on a weekend that the league isn't so no reason to fully rest. Play the likes of Wanyama to get back to full fitness, likes of Tripper, Lamela etc but no reason not to play the strongest players. I want us to give it as much of a go as we gave it last year where we were ridiculously unlucky.

Champions League is Champions League. We have already exceeded expectations. Just think we can enjoy the ride now. Up against last year's finalists in the next round. Beat them and it'd give us so much momentum. Lose? And we'll learn and we'll go again.

4pts off Madrid is enough proof for me to feel we can go all the way. I think we will beat Juve, and then it all just depends really.

I would fucking love to beat Chelsea and City along the way too.

It's always nice to beat Chelsea, but the thing I really enjoy about this competition is the opportunity to test our mettle against new teams that we don't have the opportunity to play two or three times per season.

Give me Bayern or PSG over Chelsea, please.

Problem with that is we have the NLD on the Saturday before Juventus away. No rotation there.[/QUOTE]

As it stands...

Champions League - Not even a question we should 100% put our all into going as deep as we possibly can. If we can't win it, we can't win it. But going deep is important because...

We have to finish top four - It's not a trophy. It sucks that in the modern game this is a priority, but it's the reality. If we can offer Champion's League football we can attract the top players in the world. If we can get quality players to stay and quality players to join us and we continue to go deep in the Champion's League we will continue to attract the very best players in the world. Consecutive deep runs in the Champion's League and we WILL get players that want to come to Spurs cause of how good we are at football and will be willing to take pay cuts cause they legitimately believe they could win major trophies with us.

The FA Cup. I want to win it, but I'm not actually sure it makes any difference other than the fact that people will "stop" talking about how we haven't won a trophy. Cause they won't actually stop, they'll just say "but it's only the FA Cup." Pochettino was not wrong when he said that the only cups that matter are the League and the Champion's League. If we win the FA Cup it would be nice, but it's far from a top priority for me, mainly cause if we don't secure Champion's League for next season I think we're going to have major problems this summer.

Hard to argue with that. I’d Keegan love it if we won the FA Cup and hope we go for it, but from a pragmatic perspective a good run in the CL and a top four finish would make us a genuinely high profile team again in Europe, and would benefit us in the immediate future.

However, if we go out to Juve I’d want us to go all in on the FA Cup. It’s been way too long.

I don’t think you need exact numbers to tell if a team has put out a weakened side. I’m all in favour of rotation, but say we rest Kane, Dele, Vertonghen, and Lloris for a cup game and lose, that’s prioritising and weakening the team.
I am being factious to be fair, in that have he EVER done that? The Kangaroo Cup game was clearly a rotated team, but didn't hear a single voice of disapproval when it got read out, only ay full time did the same people happy with the squad then pipe up and complain "we didn't take it seriously".

Fair enough.

You can’t play your strongest team every game and expect them not to burn out, but then it becomes a matter of picking your battles. Does Pochettino ignore the FA Cup and go for the Prem and CL? Does he give up on the league and go all in on the CL, or vice versa?

We have options in the fullback positions, and maybe midfield, but beyond that Pochettino has to choose when he’s going to use his best players.
