Player Richarlison

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It makes sense to commit fully to someone like, let's say, Bergvall. You're signing an 18 year old, a player 6-7 years away from the beginning of his prime period, for a price that's hardly commensurate with his current ability and potential due to him coming from a much smaller league. And he's obviously being paid extremely modest wages. So there is little harm in giving him a contract long enough to cover most of his 20s. Because there is little chance of not getting your money's worth when all is said and done.

But these non-elite players in their mid 20s,that are purchased from the inflated EPL market to begin with, for much higher wages than the wages of Bergvall-like total punts? Why are they getting these 5-6 year deals? Richarlison has given us virtually nothing in 4 years, Solanke is heading in that direction, and even Maddison is under contract until 32 despite that devastating injury causing serious uncertainty regarding his future.

What a waste.

Richie was a totally inflated fee I agree. As was Solanke tbh. As was Archie Gray truth be told, though as you say, it is different if they are young and on low wages. I wonder whether a more performance relate comp might help clubs? Tbf the Madders situation is different. That contract ties them in but in return gives them security if something like an ACL happens. Madders actually had a far better PL record than Richie or Solanke and did a lot more when fit for us too.

With Richie, everything points towards an exit in Jan, IF we are able to loan/buy someone better. I would imagine that even with Solanke back Frank would be a bit wary of going down one no9?

On one hand he came very close to scoring twice yesterday; on the other he made some poor mistakes and showed selfishness to take a pen away from a player that deserved a chance to take one, especially with the game safely tucked away...

I say best would be to look for a loan-to-buy move for him in the Winter- seems pretty obvious Tel and Scarlett are both better right now with more upside. I'm sure he could do well at a mid-table Spanish or Italian club. Bummer how it's all turned out but he just seems too erratic to incorporate into the side properly, or to be able to find form for more than a game or two once in a while.

Have you seen what Spanish and Italian Defenders do to Forwards??

He may as well take up Aussie Rules football instead!

I don’t agree with the fees we’ve paid, but the likes of Richy, Maddison and Solanke are established PL players and are going to command big wages (for us). Richy hasn’t turned up for us like he played for Everton, it’s really frustrating. He’s a Brazil regular, they’ve never lacked for attacking talent.

A number 10 who doesn’t rely on pace is contacted until he’s 32, so what? It’s his fault he gets an acl injury? It’s to protect the club so they’re under contract in their prime years and to prevent leaving on a free transfer.

I’m not commenting on Solanke, hopefully we can sell in January.

Can’t build a big pl team from just prospects like Bergval. Need to have experience pros and PL experience too, which admittedly we are very poor at finding the right answer to more often that not. This season, Paulinha is definitely a good one.

You want to sell Solanke in Jan but are in here bigging up Richy? Solanke is twice the player Richy is.

Richarlison is hands down one of, if not the worst signing we’ve ever made taking into account price point and the actual football we received. The guy has constantly been hurt or shite his entire tenure here.

He seems like a really nice man and I wish the best for him but we need him moved on ASAP.

Ndombele is miles worse on that front - his wages were over double Richarlison's - but Rich has to be at least top 10 given how disappointing and unavailable he's been.

Weirdly he's actually scored a goal every 225 minutes he's played for us (23 goals in total) which really isn't too shabby. In terms of actual open play goals, Soldado was way worse for us. And Janssen of course. But given how much we spent and the quality of his overall play Rich has still been a total dud and a waste of money.

I don't remotely begrudge him choosing to stay when Saudi came in with big money, but it's typical Spurs that we'd end up with the one Brazilian who has a conscience and wants to stay in the PL. Saudi bought a whole bunch of Chelsea's donkeys for over-inflated prices - if they couldn't unload duds on huge wages like Koulibaliy & Joao Felix it would've hurt them a lot. Likewise all the other teams that made bank off the Saudi clubs.

Summer? Fuck that, get him out on January 1st. I can’t wait until the summer. The sight of him lumbering out pains me too much.

He’s one of the worst strikers we’ve ever had, and we have had some fucking shit ones. He’s been a dreadful signing. Get him out as fast as possible.
Pavkyuchenko. Soldado. Postiga. Janssen. Rasiak. Rebrov.

Richy has been mostly disappointing but these were all worse.

Not having it about Pav. Even on a stats basis he scored 21 in 78 v Richy’s 19 in 80. He also was nowhere near as frustrating.

The others are fair - Soldado was far more likeable for me though just couldn’t do it for us.
Yeah I had a soft spot for Pav. Like Rich he was often shockingly shit but he was capable of scoring goals out of nothing and was a better all-round footballer.

Would certainly have him above Rich but think Soldado has to be worse. Mental that we signed a one-touch penalty box merchant when AVB's style didn't remotely cater to that type of striker.
