I was elated and emotional, you didn't see me taking my shirt off!

Just fucking get rid. Sick of the very sight of him. Bumbling, clumsy, keeps falling over and protesting, can't anticipate and meet a cross; no composure, the list goes on. Dreadful, dreadful player.
The way he over celebrated the goal was pure cringe.

A better example of going cheap would be someone like Vicario: Decent player that has been giving us our money's worth, but since the money in question was quite insufficient to purchase real quality most of us are not over the moon with him.

Cases of Johnson, Richarlison and Solanke do not exemplify going cheap: They were horrible attempts at going big, on the basis of very little evidence that they were the real deal. Andy Carroll-esque stuff.

I unironically wish we had gone cheap with this, by buying someone like Danny Ings or Callum Wilson on much friendlier terms instead. They would've contributed more on the pitch as well.

I am absolutely convinced though that some of these "big" signings we only actually signed because they were doable. Not because we identified them as some great talents.

This is how we were run under Levy. Richarlison, Solanke and Johnson were signed due to them fitting into our wage structure, and probably because we could take advantage of some preferable financials on the deal.

They were on the list of targets, but not the best we could buy. It's how this club has been run for too long. We can only hope things are changing, but I will believce it when I see it.

Richarlison absolutely has to be sold this summer latest. He's garbage, I can't wait to see the back of him, and not because I like looking at Neymar.

They were all cheap when you factor in wages, agents fees, back handers etc etc.
Haaland cost City less than Solanke cost us*

*If you ignore even his starting wage, let alone his current one.

it wasn't only cringe (which it was) but it gave the opposition more motivation to push for an equaliser and more stoppage time to do it in. It was just stupid on so many levels.

Truth is he was one of many bad purchases we have made and I think most the fan base could see it was a bad purchase at the time, hopefull at best, and reckless at worst.

Re:going cheap, one last thing I might add is that the verdict about it on a given case shouldn't be influenced by the post-hoc knowledge of how that signing eventually went. These are two separate notions.

This leads to a 2x2 table where all 4 combinations are possible based on
  1. The primary motivation behind the signing: Cost cutting vs going all in as two extreme ends of a spectrum
  2. The result: From a total miss to a total hit, once again in a spectrum
Ndombele was the pinnacle of going all in but missing horribly. Soldado was not far away.

Conversely, someone like Maddison was a case of going cheap, by taking advantage of Leicester's highly unexpected relegation when we could have gotten an even better player by opening the wallet, but hitting.

Young punts, or middling players like Doherty would be examples of going cheap and missing I guess.

Can't think of a clear cut recent example where we went for it and got paid dividents.

A very plausible signing at the time.

Backup to Kane, so wouldn’t play that often. Brazil’s number 9. Able to play off the left too. Scored a decent amount for a shite team, so would score more for a better team. Everton needed the cash.

But it’s not worked. Get rid.

Agree. Get rid.

Your post has made me ponder…good governance with regards to player trading suggests you replace who you want to sell, about a year before you sell them.

If Levy applied that, then did he sign Richarlson as Kane’s replacement ? And if he did how blood chilling is that decision!

Most definitely was the replacement to Kane. That's not up for debate.

The bigger problem is why was he even on the scouting list.

I watched him a lot for Watford and Everton. He is the type of player that gets plaudits for a good bit of play on MOTD, but if you saw the full game you'd think he's shit. A lot of the hype was from a good dribble and piece of skill like overhead kick. He did this playing mainly LW for those clubs. After a string of injuries, which should have been a massive warning sign to our scouts, he lost his pace and dribbling ability that made him a nuisance to play against. He's never looked the same and without pace you need a good intelligent head and technical quality which he has always lacked.

I was gutted we signed him. 1 good game every 10 and that was his career at Everton and Watford too.

And also people need to stop using Brazil's number 9 as a reason for him being any good or signing for us. The metrics should have been based on what technical ability he has, injury history, how well he fits into the coaches plans think it was Conte at the time and also how does he fit with the players we had at the time. None of those reasons should have led to a decision for us to sign him. And if Conte gave the green light then he is a bigger fool than people care to admit.

At the same time I think I mentioned in one of the transfer threads that there was a player called Mateta at Mainz that would be worth getting. Look at him now at palace compared to Richarlison. I watched a lot of bundesliga coming out of covid mainly because it was the first league to restart and both Mateta and Cunha who was at Hertha Berlin at the time were options for us. Instead we are still having to suffer from watching Richarlison.

It’s almost inevitable that the dumbest poster on this board would speak up in favour of this god awful footballer. Shut up you fucking dunce.

Go and play snakes and ladders. See if you can figure out the rules.

It’s genuinely poetry how strongly the dumbest people on here will get behind our absolute shittest players.

These guys can either do nothing for 90 or actively be a hindrance for 90 but have a ball bounce off them at some point and go in and they’ll justify it with tHeY sCoRED.

Game after game after game. This guy needs a DNA test frankly, he’ll find some fucking donkey in there somewhere.

Sometimes a player makes one too many moves in their career and maybe that's the case with Richarlison. Good international player who was a fan favourite at Everton. If he had stayed there he'd be getting all the minutes he wants and wouldn't have the pressure he experiences at Spurs. I hope for him he finds a situation that's a better fit for him.
