Keane was better but preferred Defoe

Keane for me.

Defoe seems a much better player looking back than he did at the time. I never had confidence that he would create chances for himself. Incidentally, a nice guy by all accounts.

Keane would force the issue more and was still a great finisher. Soured by the liverpool thing.

Both did well considering what they played with - that lineup in the villa game
:vdvcry:
Would take either as a bench option now.

Peak Keane was better than peak Defoe, but for whatever reason I always felt we had more of a chance to score with Defoe on the pitch. He was capable of creating a goal out of nothing.

In terms of legacy, Keane’s has been forever tarnished by running off to the bin dippers. Maybe not for some, but whilst I’ll always appreciate his time with us, he’s not a club legend in my book.

Defoe on the other hand should be fondly remembered. I read an interview with him where he said he had a list of Spurs’ top goal scorers stuck on his mirror, and every day it motivated him. That’s not about money or purely personal achievements, but about wanting to write yourself into the history books of a specific club.

Not at all sure why that makes him less of a villain than Keane. Not that either should really be seen as “villains”

Neither should, I definitely do not see Keane as a villain. But he's not quite a legend either - going on about Liverpool as his 'dream move' when he could have adopted a more neutral stance. If you make it clear you value one club more than another it's gone beyond business. Good player mind and should always be welcomed back.

If I recall Defoe was running down his contract and it was a refusal to commit to new terms that was ultimately the reason he went to Portsmouth.

Defoe didnt want to go anywhere, Ramos pushed him out and thankfully Harry brought him home.

"When the manager told me. I couldn't believe it. I was so shocked afterwards that I didn't want to tell my mum or my friends. When I did tell them, they didn't believe me," he said.

Even though he has been told he doesn't have a future in north London, the England international says he is ready to fight for his place and doesn't want to play for anyone else.

"If I had wanted to, I could have gone ages ago. I have never said I wanted to leave Spurs and I don't now."

Where'd ya get the quotes, Mr Sammy?

Not read as much before....

Would have loved to see both in their prime in this current Spurs team.

Imagine Kane and Keane upfront together with Defore being another option from the bench. :pochohshit:

JD wouldn't provide anything that Son can't with interest. Plus, he'd be moaning in The Sun after a few games on the bench.

Peak Keano for the bench would be useful tho.

As a player Keane. As a man Defoe. I still cant forgive Keane for jumping ship to Liverpool and organizing the Xmas pissup to Ireland which cost us points in the race for top four. Fuck him.

Defoe on the other hand has shown him self to be a pretty decent guy with his charity work and was always loyal to spurs.
