de Jong has only been "elite" sporadically since he joined Barca - to the extent that Barca was looking to sell him. However, after Xavi took over as head-coach he's played much better but he's still not the dominant "elite" player Barca thought they'd get... but he's improving.I think we need to be mindful not to get carried away. He's a breath of fresh air after the way Ndombele, Lo Celso and Winks stunk up the place, but it doesn't make him elite.
Watching Barella, Frankie De Jong etc. puts things into perspective.
