Nothing more one can add to this. An excellent summationThat's right, let's spunk 60 million on a player who doesn't actually improve our first team. He's not better than Kane, and there is no way that we are playing with both him and Kane. This is the dumbest transfer link I've seen since the arrival of SausageVince
Buying 2 guys for 25 million each in other roles would be much smarter. We can't afford 50 million on one player, and even if we could, couldn't get the players actually worth that.
How can people argue that a guy who is going to score 25+ league goals in an average side will not improve our team?

Really? We play a completely different style, where he's far less likely to score that amount
Really?
They have been playing with 3 at the back (Funes Mori, Williams and Holgate), 2 wing-backs (Coleman and Baines), 2 in the middle (Barry and Davies) and 3 attackers ... Barkley, Mirallas and Lukaku.
Because of the way they use Coleman and Baines they are probably more like us than any other team in the league.
When they don't set up like that they set up 4231 ... just like us.They've not been playing that system regularly since the start of the season.
Although my skepticisim towards Lukaku has nothing to do with the systems. It just doesn't make sense to double our transferrecord in the one position where we've actually got a better player than the one in question.
Also he would never come here unless he was the undisputed #1 and he probably still wouldn't.
His playing style is not suited to us. We don't play with two traditional strikers, and he's not going to be ok with sitting on the bench. And he's about £50m or so. If you're going to spend that, you need someone who instantly improves your best eleven. He doesn't.How can people argue that a guy who is going to score 25+ league goals in an average side will not improve our team?
€25m gets a decent player provided you know how to scout and look outside England. Sadio Mane cost less than that when Soton got him from Red Bull Salzburg. We paid £9m for Christian Eriksen. It's a matter of figuring out what your team needs, and how to find it.Lukaku or not, equally we need to be smarter than that.... In today's market that's only likely to tend to our bench without much net improvement.
Sissoko, Bolassie, Zaha, Lingard... Thats about the level... Not gonna bring the bench quality up nor challenge any as of now unchallenged places in the 1st XI.
Go after specific targets based on the individual not a vague profile... Bid early, make them feel wanted and an integral part of the project and if they don't bite move on.
Not claiming it to be easy, but we need to be brave AND smart.
Similarly, not saying we shouldn't have a punt on a few cheaper young prospects, like GKN or whoever but not at the expense of essential recruitment.
Already said elsewhere this next window is huuuuge.... Wembley will kill our season if we have recruited late and/or poorly.... More than ever, we need early momentum and stronger depth to cover injuries, loss of form and to be able to suitably rotate for Europe and Cups.
