...isn't our current owner a tax exile (who also had shares in Rangers)?

They have a few good young players coming through in the next few years if they continue to develop, I like Leon King and Kai Kennedy who haven't made many 1st team appearances yet and Nathan Patterson looks like he has potential at full back.

Joe Lewis emigrated from UK in the 1970's and has permanently lived abroad for decades - certainly might have had something to do with Dennis Healey's taxation system which at the highest tax take was 98% (ie tax payer kept 2%) which was ridiculously high that it meant people stopped working as it wasn't worthwhile - but not sure someone who emigrated 50 years ago can any longer be called a tax exile.

As a sidenote when Thatcher came to power in 1979, tax percentages went down - but total tax collected went up as more higher earners did more things.......reason why no left wing government throughout has tried to follow Healey''s tax take into the 90%'s !

ENIC held a stake in Rangers but sold it well before Rangers used schemes which was so blatantly to avoid paying tax I'm surprised anyone didn't understand it was likely to fail.

Back to football, under UEFA system Scottish trained footballers count as overseas trained (ie non HG) so best to sign them before aged 18 so they can become HG with 3 years at Spurs before aged 21.

Its always been amazing how Scotland (born and bred) used to produce a lot of top class footballers such as our own Alan Gilzean but almost stopped overnight maybe 20 years ago, but a few decent (not top class) footballers are starting to emerge again. Maybe time to take a punt on one or two under 18's

That's total bullshit as the 98% was on UNEARNED income!

And as the Beatles joked in 1966 there's one for you 19 for me...I'm the Taxman.
Which is only 95%!!

Celtic’s humiliation completed with a 4-1 defeat to Rangers today, who are on course for 100+ points and an unbeaten season. It really is an incredible turnaround. Celtic should have managed themselves to a point of being uncatchable as a club. But their complacency and incompetence have led to an absolutely incredible fall - and they now look far behind Rangers in every aspect.

Next season will be interesting with fans back. When Celtic were last in the stadium, they were well on their way to 9 League Championships in a row and the treble treble in domestic trophies.

Fuck ‘em both BTW. I’m always hoping for a miracle from Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs etc. to make that league genuinely interesting.

What next at Ibrox and Celtic Park?

A really good manager can address all of this in relatively quick order, which is presumably why Celtic are waiting for Howe. If they think he's the guy with the nous and the charisma to spark a recovery then they'll feel it's worth taking some flak from annoyed supporters in the short term to get the benefits of his management in the medium to long term.

Celtic will see it as holding their nerve and making the right appointment, but Howe, if and when he arrives, will have some amount of expectation on him. We can't know if he fully realises what it's going to be like or, even if he does know, how he'll deal with it, but two minutes into the job he'll realise he ain't at Bournemouth anymore.

It'll be interesting to see what Rangers do in the summer. The club has already stated that they'll need to sell an asset or two to address the finances, but how far do they go on that? The champions of Scotland next season gain automatic entry into the Champions League group stage. It's a £25m season. Maybe a £30m season.

Celtic have a bewildering array of decisions to make, but Rangers are not without their own puzzlers.

If somebody comes in strong for Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara, Filip Helander, Barisic, Morelos, James Tavernier or young Nathan Paterson, do they listen or do they slam the phone down? They have to walk a line between selling a player or two in the name of fiscal caution and keeping them all and adding a few on top in the name of ambition and evolution and that pot of gold that awaits the 2021-22 champions.

Gerrard will push for more resources as befits a manager who demands constant improvement. Having taken so long to knock Celtic off their perch he will want his club to stick around at the top for a whole lot longer than one season.

Watching how Rangers balance the need for footballing progress and financial prudence will be interesting. The months ahead will be dominated by the remaking of Celtic, though. The revolving door hasn't started whirring yet, but it will. And soon.

I was told that they offered Howe the Celtic job back at the end of January and are still waiting for an answer. I’d be telling him to piss off if I had to wait this long.

Sell Morelos to some PL club. he's a nutter, replaceable and will land them a nice fee

Seems to have finally made his mind up.

Be interesting to see how he does in a more pressurised and demanding environment. The goldfish bowl of Glasgow could not be more different to Bournemouth, where anything achieved in the PL was a bonus, with the club playing at a level way above expectations or history. Now he’s somewhere where any dropped points are a disaster.

Totally agree.i remember an interview with joe ledley a few years back he said he never experienced the pressure like he did at celtic. Pressure to win every game is like no where else including with wales

Rangers ladies showing their class today Rangers last game of the season.... :mourcry:celebrating their title win

Honestly, Rangers and Celtic are scum clubs, an insult to the countries, flags and religions that their claim to represent. Wankers. Both should be shut down.
I'm not a Celtic fan, in fact as I have said many times earlier Davie Cooper was my favourite player growing up, but the two are not equivalent. Stein was buying Protestants in the 60's. Mo Johnston's purchase caused many RFC fans to tear up their season tickets 1989!
Mark Walters signed for RFC 1987 - his own fans threw bananas at him!
The Green Brigade put offensive posters and messages on their stand. Rangers fans fire bomb the CFC CEO!
Celtic are not perfect but the baddies here wear blue white and red.

So St. Johnstone of Perth win both domestic cups, becoming only the second side outside of the Old Firm to do so. Pretty impressive for a very small provincial club, but it also shows how dreadful the standard of football is right now in the supposedly bigger teams. I’ve been to their ground a few times and it’s like watching League Two football with both the quality of football and the sparsity of fans. Nice bunch though so pleased for them. Just such a shame that their all-time pinnacle of achievement was watched by a grand total of zero fans.

even if they’d had fans in the stadium been lucky to have more than 5k a provincial little club in a town that has very little interest in football got dogs abuse for giving up most of their stadium to the Old Firm when they play in Perth but they are a well run club punching well above their weight that’s their 3rd major honour in 6years.
