who got the best academy in London ? it must be hard to find or attract the best kids with so many club ..

Chelsea hoover up most of the best youth in London with mind blowing basic salaries

It doesn't help that ManCity follow up on smaller academies by buying up players slightly older who Chelsea missed - Jaden Sancho at QPR being a good example

After that Woolwich and us are pretty similar in strength, we were ahead 7-10 years ago but lost ground when no pathway was visible to first team and we lost young players - ex Spurs u 16 captain Noni Mandueke joining PSV for that reason, and at aged 18 starting to look a very good with 5 goals and 5 assists in the first team this season (circa 5 starts, 11 off bench).

So yes, very competitive to recruit youngsters in London - always been so.

Chavski by a million miles. Their wages are akin to Harry Kane money for Harry Winks. We can't compete with that.

Just a reminder that Roles, Sterling, Oluwayemi and Cooper's (?) loans were set to expire on January 1.

The forward moved to Roots Hall in October but scored only once in 12 appearances as a groin injury restricted his availability.

Half of Sterling's appearances were off the bench and his solitary goal was a consolation in a 6-1 thrashing at Colchester.

After the 22-year-old started for the Blues against Grimsby on December 15, he was forced off at half-time with another injury and returned to parent club Spurs over the festive period to continue his rehabilitation, which is where he will now remain.

"The club would like to thank Kazaiah for his contributions and efforts and wish him every success for the future," an official statement from Southend read.

CB/RB who seems to have increasingly looked better and better in the last 12 months, was on first team bench for one match in preseason and has been a mainstay of and captained u23 side this season.

Hopefully he gets lots of playing time at Cambridge, so that JM's team can better assess him in pre-season - I would guess he would be in competition with TJ Eyoma (currently on loan at League 1 Lincoln City) also a CB/RB for any chance in the first team.

Mystery solved ! Played several games for us in pre-season and Ferguson looked very good in one which was streamed, signed a contract, played one game.....and then silence since then (although in a couple of promo shots with other players at the stadium).

Wonder how quickly he can get back playing ?

Several posters have asked which club have the 'best' academy in England or London.

This is another way to assess it - although it must also be said Spurs do not go all out to win youth matches, they are more concerned by performance/development of youngsters to the extent of sometimes putting out a side with a couple of weaknesses to see if the players can overcome the weakness. And so points collected may not fairly represent the academy progress.

So with that in mind, and looking at the 'u23 and u18 combined column', Chelsea are top with Woolwich and Spurs pretty close together, but with a number of northern sides including 2nd placed ManCity and Everton, ManU, Liverpoool between the north London rivals and Chelsea.

I wonder how many Chelsea academy guys are playing top class football compared to ours?
Maybe (or maybe not) that is a consideration when parents decide what club is best for their kid.
I believe THFC have a good record for looking after all the academy players, not just the "stars."

thank feck they don't know what to do with them. Nathan Ake? de Bryune? Salah? RLC? loads of others we're not aware of?

A Poch, for example, with no choice but to pick the kids could do a great job there. Another class of 90 what not at Man U. (a Poch also keen to send the likes of Madueke and Binks out on loan)

The amount they pay their kids is obscene. Double-edged sword. They can hoover up a lot of greedy kids, or their parents, but then what? Some of them will inevitably lose their hunger and determination.

I think our record of academy kids ending up in the PL and with England caps in the past few years is pretty exceptional. Anyone that can get Livermore into the England team? Fucking miracle

Good news is that Cambridge seem to be genuinely pleased on the loan signing of Jubril Okedina - which is good news as its more likely he gets played a fair amount providing he puts the necessary effort and skill in (which he has shown for Spurs u23's)

Been impressed whenever I've seen Okedina play.

Looks the best centre back prospect I have seen since Caulker - though I'd like to think he could probably end up better.

Wow. Caulker, before he went off the rails, really looked like he would be the real deal

Yeah he was pretty great.

Could well have been just more physically developed than those in his age group but he was so very good at his football league loans too that it seemed a formality that with the right opportunity he could be a mainstay in our defence.

But like you say, with the wrong crowd and really went off the rails. Think there were rumours he slept with Joe Lewis' grand daughter, he had the alcohol and gambling addictions etc. - A shame really.
