Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Who would you think are the strongest candidates for bench (excluding u16's) - Warren, Logan, Bangura, Upson, Byrne, Ellis-Parris, Myrtaj, Would you include Orr, Adekunle, Egan-Riley and/or James in that list ?
Logan I think starts at LB. Maybe ends up being a CB long-term but has looked good at fullback so far this year.

Maybe Warren, Upson, Bangura, Bryne, Myrtaj for the bench?

Would cover pretty much all the positions. Few of the players that start are quite flexible, Williams-Barnett can play wide and 10, Adewole is good enough technically to play midfield if needed.

Of their line up
7 were 1st years
4 were 2nd years

Our line up:
7 were 1st years
3 were 2nd years
1 was an U16

The difference may be that of our 3 x 2nd years starting, Warren seems to be an acceptable backup GK whereas Adekunle and Orr were not picked out by anyone as decent options for our bench - yet you'd expect the 2nd years to be better players than first years, but they were not.

And of our 2nd years on the bench, Logan was good but Egan-Riley and Herbie James were not chosen you anyone as bench options.

A small sample but I suspect we know which players we should avoid being in a match squad if at all possible

Don’t take it too seriously. These are mainly 16yr old boys trying to become professional footballers. Just because we’ve won a few youth trophies in the last two seasons, doesn’t mean that it will carry on.
But it doesn’t mean that one or two today won’t become first teamers.
Lets see how the season goes and enjoy the football.

All the England youth squads are getting announced on Friday so probably be quite a few posts then. We didn't have anyone in the England U16 squad that was leaked, Frankie Day was missing although didn't see him in our U16 preseason tour picture so might be out injured. Could see a couple of our E u19/u20s miss out as the pool becomes quite big at U20 and U21 level with the age groups covering a few years.
Blake Philogene is in the U16 squad, England U16 won their first game 3-2 today against Italy.

Sam Amo-Ayew has scored for Southampton tonight. I note he also came on in their defeat at Newcastle on the opening day. I can't imagine he'd be anywhere near our first team so a good career decision by him.

Mikey Moore became our youngest player at aged 16 last season, similar age to when Sam made his first team debut for Southampton

Its usually easier for good young players to get first team experience at a younger age at 'smaller' clubs (which is why loans by PL teams to lower league teams happen). But to make progress they usually need to leave the 'smaller club' and join the bigger club - not always an easy leap

Its also true that Sam came through the Spurs youth system at a time when Poch had killed off all loans and most first team playing experience, so with most first team pathways closed down there was less hope of young players getting through, followed by a short renaissance under Mourhino and then a complete freeze of youth development under Conte.

Spurs current crop coming through may show Spurs have learned their lesson and want to get youngsters through into the first team, so had Sam not walked he'd be in Spurs current crop competing to get Ange's eye for the first team.

But at time Sam left, certainly the right decision for him - and might have been the final nail in the coffin of not taking the youth system seriously enough at Spurs.

Give him minutes and he’d score no doubt.

The lad has the drive, like Kane eerily similar, the way when he went to Sheffield Utd, their U18’s went on a Lankshear driven winning run, him becoming instant youth talisman for them, captain.

Then becoming our top scorer as we dominated last season in the youths. Insane pedigree we’ve had great luck getting hold of. His attributes fit what I perceive Ange wants most, in a finishers terms (but Solanke in all round, could turn into a Soldado/Adebayor —> Kane with Solanke/Richarlison having to fight off Lankshear’s potential.

He’s only been gone 2yrs, Poch has been gone 5 years. He was only 13 when Poch left. I think 6k a week might have proved more important.

Poch killed off any hope of youths moving through to first team - that's why the likes of Madueke moved on , and not enough changed until about 12 months ago (Moore kept by making mega changes to youth contracts).

So Sam just following pattern of Madueke et al.

But the rottenness of youth system started in Poch reign

Blake Philogene starting today for England U16's 2nd game against Italy

Other than Chelsea who have 8 players in the squad (think most will need to move on to have a career in football) the players come rom a wide spread of clubs including both EFL and PL (perhaps more so than most squads ?)
Until they all go to City and Chelsea 😂

Think last season Philbert was with West Ham and Collinson was with Boro so Chelsea really do work quite hard on hoovering up the talent at these ages.

"football.london understands that midfielder Tyrese Hall, who turns 19 on Wednesday, is available for loan before the summer transfer deadline on Friday should the right club come along with a guarantee of minutes, with the preference from Spurs understood to be League One and upwards."
