Is that right??

We tend to play better when we have game after game and Mourinhos tactics probably don't tire us out too much anyway if we're willing to play on the counter.

MORE SPURS

So is that only 2 EL spots for the EPL now or just that it's automatically FAcup + 2?

Europe Tier 3 sounds dreadful though..... Totally puts paid to that "rather finish lower and have no Europe" shtick however.... EL qualification will no longer be a booby prize if you have to finish 8th or 9th to avoid it.

Looks like

Woolwich, Leicester & Tottenham from England
Rangers, Motherwell & Aberdeen from Scotland
Bala Town, Barry Town & The New Saints from Wales
Derry, Shamrock Rovers & Bohemians from Eire
Glentoran & Colraine from Northern Ireland

It seems we're back to the old days of;
European Cup
Cup Winners Cup
EUFA Cup

Only with more teams in a group format.

5th placed team and FA Cup winners or 6th placed team to EL. Carabao Cup winners or 7th placed team to the new conference league. If the tournament started from this season, we'd be on it instead of EL.
So ;
CL 4 English teams
EL 2 teams
New thingy 2 teams

The conference league is so ill-concieved.

A third European competition on equal footing with the Europa League, particularly if it bled some slots out of the Champions league to balance the whole thing out, would make a lot of sense.

A competition exclusively for associations, say, 10 and below that would get good competitive games to non-dynastic clubs in developing football nations that are cannon fodder for top 4 league teams would make a lot of sense.

This is a mishmash of both, accomplishing neither.

It's actually 4, 2 and 1.

The Europa League is getting much smaller, there are only going to be 20 teams "native" to the EL, with the rest dropping down from the CL.

Nations ranked below 15 aren't sending anyone natively to the EL, it's one to the CL then like 4 to the conference league.

Maybe the idea is that that handful of top teams that get shunted into the conference league are supposed to play the kids and not try and lose at the first sign of resistance? I doubt that's the way it comes off.

No, new thingy will have just 1 team. Just the League Cup winners. But if a top 5 team wins the LC and the FA Cup, then the 7th placed team in the league will enter the new conference league. If the FA Cup is won by a team that isn't in the top 5 (like 2019/20), then the 6th placed team in the league will enter the conference league.

If they want this to be the Little Guy European Cup, they should give the spot to the best LC finisher who isn't otherwise in Europe, rather than defaulting to the best league finisher.

Sending Villa instead of us, to use this season's example, would clearly be more in the spirit of the competition.

It'll help shorten the Europa League - round of 32 will be scrapped. Plus it'll actually give some of the smaller clubs a huge chance at a European trophy. Wolves would've probably won it if it started from last season.
