Dannyboy Dannyboy you literally do think of something and start a thread on it don't you!!

Greaves357_bestever Greaves357_bestever over to you!

Hi, pleased to reply. Have no strong feelings about Nethercott, but don't see the point of attacking former players, unless they betrayed us in some way. Nethercott was picked on merit, that's how he became a professional footballer, simple really.

Docherty, pre-injury, I rated significantly higher than Nethercott.

Let's just remember that Docherty and Nethercott won precisely the same amount medals with our club as most/all of our current 'stars' have - precisley zero

Indeed Nethercott reached an FA cup final with Millwall, I believe. Somewhat better than most/all of our current crop have achieved for Spurs.

I got runner up in the Junior Spur design a Christmas card competition. Runner up prize was a signed photo of a player. Yep, Stuart Nethercott for me! Proper stitch up.

I was at the Lane in the 70's and saw John Pratt take a corner at the Paxton Rd end next to block 23. He guided the ball 30 yds up the touchline with the outside of his left foot straight into touch for a throw in. Nuff Said

At least John Pratt played with his heart and his head, not the best but loved Spurs, and still does. If we had one John Pratt in the team, one who wants to play for the club not the money, perhaps we would have a better side.

Well said. And Pratt for all his failings won more medals with spurs than any of the current crop of 'stars' (IIRC)
The treatment of Pratt by many Spurs fans is indicative of the lack of support shown so often at the Lane and a key reason why the last 50 seasons haven't been as good as the previous fifty.

Oh FFS Greavsie. Has it really been shit for 50 years? We've won many more trophies in the last 50 years than the previous 50. What is your agenda other than to moan?

Fair comments Joe, although I didn't say it was shit the past 50 seasons. I said it was worse than the previous 50 and I stick by that. In that period we won the title twice and were serious contenders on a number of other occasions. That hasn't been anything like the case in the past 50.
1963 probably marked the high tide of us as a club when we were the first British team to win a European trophy. At that time we were the most glamorous club in London and arguably the biggest. Now we trail a poor third to Woolwich and Chelsea.
It's not just trophies and status though, it's the crowd as well. In many ways the crowd got spoilt by the early 60s, and things have got worse overall, since the heady days of the 50s and early 60s, IMHO. Though of course there have been magical times at the Lane post 63, just nowhere near enough.

Is Greavesy talking shit again?
