This stinks of arrogance from Levy. Four months ago he was told to fuck off by WBA. FOUR MONTHS. But he clearly thought it was all about brinkmanship and he'd prevail nonetheless. After so many late deals in previous windows you have to wonder how a man in his position doesn't learn. It's clear with all these late bids that he thought that he was the big man who'd get his own way with the smaller club, assuming Peace would give out just like he caved over Keane, Berbatov, Modric and Bale when the money was high enough, and he's yet again been out smarted by a chairman who thinks differently. With the risk that such an approach takes, how can you not have a back up and how can you not move onto that back up in the last few days? Chelsea had two bids rejected today for their back up defender after Stones....but, with all their cash, they still left themselves able to negotiate a back up on the last day because they accepted defeat on Stones before deadline day. They tried to prepare and plan for today, even despite their easy cash flow. Why didn't we do that? Where was our back up for our first choice?

God, I feel so angry now. I could swallow it if there were legitimate excuses, but these mistakes, year after year, seem so damned obvious. I feel like Levy is taking the piss out of us.
Everyone is wise to Levy's methods. Football is awash with money from the new TV deal. That's why Peace could turn round & say "pay us what we value our player at, or fuck off Daniel". On SSN, the reporter at Albions ground said that the final bid was Little more than the 3rd bid. If we lost out on our number 1 (& only) target because Levy refused to meet an asking price that was set several months ago when we first enquired about his availability, then we should have bowed out graciously some time ago, & looked elsewhere for a second striker or been prepared to meet the asking price. Peace has even said that he told Levy that an 11th hour deal was not in their plans, so it shouldn't come as a shock to Levy that they refused to take less money at the 11th hour.

It seems Jeremy Peace has been the suicide bomber of the transfer window here and really has put Levy in the shitter

Levy didn't account for the fact there would be a chairman out there more belligerent than him who is willing to have left the window with no money and an upset striker

Levy should have had back ups or never messed around over what is probably a couple of million in the first place. It did not have to be Berahino, if the price was too high and Peace a cunt fine, where were the alternatives? we should have had 3 on the list

15 years ago I went up Tottenham Court Road looking for a camcorder, I went from shop to shop haggling until I got a good deal, If I went into one shop and only wanted one camera what chance of leverage would I have had? They knew Levy was desperate

It's simply not true that a player that plays EL on Thursday can't play PL on Sunday. You should avoid having the same 11 play two games a week, but allowed some players to do so, while using the squad well, should be no problem.

We have plenty of AM options, so having to play an AM as a striker every now and then would be no problem.

Mason did well as AM, Dembele has been great, Eriksen and Chadli we know are quality, and then there is Pritchard and Son.

Our attacking options are fine.

And we've strengthened our defence.

We have a better squad than last season.

Someone's been on the happy pills.

:gazza:

What pisses me off so much is the fact that it not must have been Berahino. Nobody puts in 5 bids in a short space of time if you have a second option. Apart from Levy of course.

If we don't complete a loan deal to bring somebody in as a second striker who will be happy enough to get some games in EL and cup games, this season is going to be ridiculous. All the teams can fully concentrate on defending Kane now.

Jelavic or Mbokani on a loan wouldn't have made me celebrate, but they are certainly decent back-ups.

Exactly, and this is the whole point. It's no longer the melts who are angry. It's gone beyond that now. Levy can't get away with the bullshit anymore. I would be very surprised if he doesn't see a backlash this season, especially if we have a run of bad results and Poch gets shafted.

I was desperate for sammyspurs sammyspurs to be wrong this window. He wasn't. Had my tear ups with him but truth is he got this one right. Gutted. Not because Sammy was right, but it's so fucking disappointing. Feel let down tonight. Everyone knows we need another striker. Everyone knows Adebayour will be back at some point.

A striker was the absolute minimum. An ideal window would have included a deep lying playmaker and a proper DM (Dier might turn into one though). Even a second striker wouldn't have been overkill after Soldado left.

To everyone who thinks we're now destined to plummet down the table (and I realize that's not everyone), have you had a look around at what's going on this season in London, Manchester, and Liverpool, City excluded? Might as well have a go.

Adebayor should have been in the first team squad since day one if there was even a chance we couldn't get rid despite what most spurs fans think of him-hes a STRIKER, can take pressure off and hold up the play and on occasion be unplayable.
How the fuck is Poch going to backtrack now and get him playing again? Hes prob too stubborn to anyway, after all Spain won a world cup and euro champ'ship at times playing with 6 midfielders eh.

Nail.On.Head.

How it will be percieved as "good business managent" to posthone your most expensive asset purchases until very last hours of a deadline for a multimillion company, well that is beyond me.

Imagine if Land Rover Jaguar did the same with their new assembly line robots. If Apple did that with their processors for the next smartphone. But they don't.

And hence Levy isn't the business genius, that people credit him for. He's just the caretaker of a wealthy investor who maximises profitability and minimises risktaking.

I sympathise with Adebayor about his personal life issues, but as a footballer he epithomises everything wrong with modern football. Lazy, greedy and in complete disregard to his trade

Let us end the whole "Levy master negotiator" aura that the media and THFC (read: Joe Lewis' bitch) have created.

A "master negotiator" would not have missed out on as many deals as he has. 5 offers including 3 in the last 6 hours of the window? Really? That's a master?

We fuck up year upon year with the same shit. Miss on targets for not willing to pay an extra 50p. Refuse to get manager's targets or decent backups. Sometimes bargain buy players not wanted and sell them on within the next three windows.

Oh do fuck off. Sick and tired of happy clapper cretins who will make excuses whatever the club do. We NEED another striker. We NEED a DM. These have been known for ages. Window after window we don't fill our most obvious needs...and many times it's because of this one directional approach from Levy of having one target and leaving it until the last second.

I've always tried to stay positive. Years I have defended Levy, and then accepted him as the lesser of two evils, but how much longer can we just accept the same shite without asking questions?
Of course Levy picks the targets doesn't he?
Accept that we are not at the top of the food chain. We were up their when we sold Bale as we didn't make any Bargain Basement Dadlin day buys then did we.
Do you think Liverpool could have met Benteke's release clause if they would not have sold Sterling. Maybe if they were wiling to buy just him and Gomez.
Face up to the fact that we have to wait as we haven't got the cash or leverage to tempt a club to sell a player they don't want to ( Martial)
Maybe we should have just offered WBA £35m for Berahino and Everton £25m for McCarthy, sold the 7 players and went £16m into positive and not bought anyone else?

We shall until Kane gets crocked.

Wouldn't it be hilariously depressing if the year that the rest of the filthy rich save City fuck up, teams like Palace, Swansea, Saints, Leicester, West fucking Ham are there to take advantage rather than us. Levy should be shot if that happens.

You only have to see other fans forum to see what they think of Levy, everyone knows he's a devious ruthless chairman who wants to get as much as he can any way he can. As you say the TV money means the buying club cannot pressurise the potential selling club as much as the need for cash is less now. Levy think he holds the aces when really he's just holding a busted flush and everyone can see it.

Smoked Salmon Smoked Salmon made the best point, we don't speculate to accumulate like most teams. Most teams take a chance and spend cash even if it seems a little over the odds, they do so because a stronger team means potentially higher league position, more European adventures, cup success which in turn brings in more money, more fans, better players etc. you only have to look at Palace, West Ham, Swansea to see how strong smaller teams now look this season after a few risks. We are conservative to the point undermining our own manager and team, you can't always get the cheapest deal and the cheapest deal in the short term is often the most expensive in the long term.

I think we'll struggle with no addition natural striker which will make us buy 2 shitty ones come January. a shame it could have been a successful window all around.

Now lock this shite

Except Peace has bought other strikers. I think most are now pissed off with Levy's tactics
