£15 million is no longer a 'huge sum'. 60k a week is no longer a huge sum. People are still judging players based off of a 2010-2013 basis, when our income has more than doubled since then in terms of tv money.

The TV deal for 2016 onwards is £5.1 billion, and that's without foreign broadcasters too, so over £6 bil.
The current deal is £3billion
In 2010 it was £1.7 billion

Newcastle have spent £14 million on one player and £13 million on another, and this is a team fighting relegation. If a relegation threatened team with poorer finances can cough up that sort of money, then I'm sure we can too and so it shouldn't be considered huge.

Name me some world class players who have come into the Premier League and not joined a top 4 side. I'm struggling to think of any. Benteke isn't world class. Maybe Tevez, 7 years ago? We can't compete with United and Chelsea for world class players and they in turn can't compete with Real Madrid, Bayern and Barcelona.

£20m and 60k a week are huge sums if you pay it to average PL players.

I know there's been a discussion on these boards about the definition of the term 'world class player' before. In my opinion it includes the likes of Bale and Modric, and might, with some luck and proper training, also include Bentaleb, Dier and Lamela in a few years. Another clearly world class player that have joined non top 4 the last 7 years is Suarez. Keep in mind that I wrote that we should aim for world class, but not players who are world class now - players that we can turn into world class. Just like we did with Bale and Modric.

I think signing Berahino will be a massive Levy style whore mistake.

Levy sees future meal ticket. I see drink driving, assault and worse tickets.

Very poor attitude for a kid his age and will only get worse. Future Ballotelli

For all the doubts about Berahino's attitude/misdemeanours, I'd like to point out that he had a tough upbringing; one that I couldn't imagine having...

Is it justification for wrongdoing? No.
But there is at least some rationale for why he might not have been the most well-adjusted young man.

There's been no indication of late that he has been any kind of poor trainer/lazy/a troublemaker.

Maybe. But his lengthening list of misdemeanours both on and off the field at his age seems to point to a wrong un imo.

Once he gets the bright lights of London my guess is he will Make Jonny two saints look like David Beckham.
Clearly I'm unaware of the 'list'. Weather or not he's had a beer brfore a drive or kicked up a fuss at WBA He'll be coming to a proper football club and I truly think he will do really fucking well. A mixture of Sturridge and Defoe but more versatile. Pay the money, up to 25m, please.

He's been on strike and banned a couple of times so I would say yes he could be classed as a trouble maker.

Why hasn't a top 4 club come on for him? I couldn't give a shit about his upbringing. Not one wet plop.

I don't want this damaged fucker anywhere near our youth.

Dropping out of the top 10 is increeeedibly unlikely, and I'm not a fan of Poch. Dropping down to 7th or 8th is entirely possible though as it's arguable we haven't strengthened as much as changed personnel so far. Defenders are often as good as their defensive unit, so it's entirely possible that Alderweireld will look distictly worse for us this year than he did in the strong defensive unit for Southampton last year. Fazio was excellent for Seville before coming to us, and despite having a fantastic keeper (top 5 in the world?) we conceeded more than some relegation candidates last year.

Our eggs appear to be in the 'Poch's system comes good with the right personnel' camp, which is what we all hope but yet he almost took Espanyol to relegation before another manager came in to rescue them (yes, he had to deal with some difficult circumstances).

10th, no way. But 8th with the current signings? Possibly. As ever, I'm playing devil's advocate here.
