Transfers Summer 2016 Transfer Window Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Pochettino played 2 strikers, Lambert and Rodriguez, at Southampton.
I'm pretty sure there are quotes out there by him saying that if he has two good strikers he will find a way of playing them both.
He said he'd even play 3 if he had them. It's not a matter of him being unwilling to play 2 strikers, it's just a case of whoever we get needing to match the profile of how we play. If Harry needs a rest, we're not ripping up the entire system because he's not playing. The new guy will need to be able to play the same general way.

Rodriguez would have been pushed outwide or behind Lambert surely?

Still, two strikers :pochfacepalm:

You said, we will not spend big on a striker because we don't play two strikers. If one of the two play behind, as I've argued for on here for a long time, there's absolutely no argument to not spend big on striker and then having the option to play just one for some matches, and two in others.

After the last few matches, suitable subs for Dier and Dembele should be a priority over a striker imo.

It's astonishing how different we look without Dembele's muscle in the center. He makes EVERYONE better.

Have to wonder if Poch believes Alli & Onomah are cable of playing this role in the future.

I would hope we play more matches next season than this season. I think ideally you want better subs just to give some regulars a rest. Boys have looked a bit slow in the last 3 matches.

My shopping list:

Top Quality:
1 CM
1 CDM
1 Striker

Useful:
1 CB
1 GK

Bright future/Raw talent:
1 CAM

Those who've seen him generally think he'd fit well. He's been heavily scouted by Premier League clubs, so definitely a lot of people feel that he can.

and his price tag? the allure of champions league will help us getting players. I just think with Long is..we appear short in depth and another option. He aint a worldy but good enough. Healthy discussion but I think Poch could make him handy for us

If you want a Champion's League quality striker, you need to pay for it. If we were willing to spend 25 million on Saido frickin' Berahino last year, I can't see how we won't be willing to try for Batshuayi this.

I think we need to re-adjust what "good enough" means though. If we intend to actually compete for the title year-in and year-out over the next few years, then someone who can play for a mid-table Premier League club isn't going to cut it. We're going to need a bigger boat.

I don't think we can buy a bigger boat while we are upgrading our stadium as well, can we?

It depends. I think there's enough under-rated striker talent out there that we could find someone for roughly the same amount we were willing to spend on Berahino last year.

Do we still have that kind of money to spend? I'd like to think so, given the new TV deal would likely make the finances work more easily.

My joke was purely boat related, not transfer related. I do apologise.

If Berahino is the limit of our clubs power though, then we can easily expect to drop back down to fifth. He's not the player to push us on at this stage, we need to be signing players of a higher calibre who may or may not be considered a coup, not a £25 Million homegrown "talent"

You need to watch or read a few Poch interviews if you think good enough is what Poch strives in anything, he does!!!

Goes for transfers in as well, as seen with no striker signed for the sake of it in the last two windows.

No worries, I'm just thick.

I meant the budget, not necessarily his talent. There are plenty of good young strikers out there, and not all of them play for clubs able to demand a forty-million-pound payday.

Really want Lacazette. Slightly older but cheaper than Michy if the rumours are true. I think he is the much better player though, dominating Ligue 1 the past few years. I think either will be fine though, especially after last years Ligue 1 transfers performed so well.
