Transfers Summer 2016 Transfer Window Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If we finish in the top two we should go back in for Griezmann, that would be my dream signing as unrealistic as it is, he is fantastic, a poch type of player through and through with his versatility, work rate and youth. Gosh I do wish would would have signed him last season before he went to Athletico, now we are looking at £40mil+ but we would instantly be in for the title again if we had him next season, brings that much needed pace going forward...
Okay, dream over, when are we getting Pienaar?:carrollwtf:

I'm not usually one to beg for a fat transfer fee, but I was practically begging for Griezmann no matter the cost.

40m is probably on the cheap side for him at this point. I think he'd be fucking devastating in our side.

It's a given that Dembele will leave Fulham this summer. I think we're the most likely destination, having been in contact with him throughout January. He seems a great talent and would a nice addition to the squad imo (also a lot more realistic than Batshuayi)

Add an extra CDM in (Wanyama?) and I second that.

I still think it would be harsh on the players we currently have. We have 6-7 and they've all either done well or are young enough to deserve another chance.

Mason, Dier, Dembele, Carrol, Bentaleb, Winks.

Mason did well in his first season and has been unlucky with injury. He adds a lot of attack to our team.
Dier is irreplaceable.
Dembele has signed a new contract
Carrol has done very well when called upon and seems to genuinely want to succeed at Tottenham
Bentaleb is young and has a lot of potential, even if I don't personally like/rate him that highly
Winks is very, very young and I feel like another CM will block his progression

Whose Tottenham career do you end out of those players?

I think it would be very, very harsh on any of them. As a result I don't see us buying any CM, it would set a bad example to have such a great mix of players and then punish them for trying their best.

Wanyama is too slow, too poor on the ball and gets lost in games a lot. There's a reason why Poch (according to Darren Lewis) turned down the chance to sign him for us twice. He's worked with him and seen his limitations.

More realistic than Batshuayi indeed, but it's not enough having Kane and one junior CF that is hot and cold a tier below where we are. Especially not, if we're going to play in the Champions League.

Kane, one Ings type striker (reputation-wise, willing to sit on the bench) and a junior striker like Dembele.

Not disagreeing, but who fits the profile?

I was a bit dissapointed that Liverpool signed him cheaply.
Sort of hoped that it was firmly established by now that any ambitious player would sign with us rather than the dippers . Statistically they only end above us like 15% of the time.

Why on earth would we sign anyone who is happy or willing to sit on the bench?

Fuck that. I want a top class striker who will force Kane to his limits. I want a Walker/Trippier situation, where they spur each other on.

I want people to look at our bench and think, "Holy shit, they're bringing on that 20-30 goal a season striker as well as Kane". I don't want anyone looking at our bench and thinking, "Oh, they're bringing on their relegation striker" or someone of that ilk.

We're a big club. We can focus all our funds and efforts on one position. I want people to fear us. We can become the new United, and we're not going to do that by signing people who will "Make do".

There's no reason why we shouldn't go for "Batman" in France.

I think you're bringing sentiment into it a little too much. I agree that we shouldn't be kicking out players who deserve a shot unless necessary - but the list you gave there are mostly general CMs as opposed to specific CDMs in the mould of Dier himself.

Dier - number one choice, of course

Dembele - thriving playing alongside the CDM and carrying the ball forward

Carroll and Winks - CMs, and neither appear to have particularly good defensive capabilities

Mason - seems like a good utility player, and has some CDM-like qualities... But I think his ceiling may be about as high as his best displays last season (which I think we could aim for better) and is injury prone. Would rather he slotted in at CM rather than CDM to be honest.

Bentaleb - disconcerting to see his current form post-injury, but have faith he'll come back well. Of these listed, has the best attributes for playing CDM. Would have to see how Poch uses him moving forward.

So considering all that, I think only Dier and Bentaleb are good fits for the CDM position - but the latter has hardly been covering himself in glory recently.
Dier, of course, can also be one of our CB back ups, meaning that depth in CDM is key for times where he needs to be slotted in the back.

TL;DR - if we're in the Champions League next year, I think it's key to add another CDM in - as the long list of midfielders you mentioned are really fighting it out for the other position in central midfield. At least they are if we want to maintain our excellent defensive showings.
