Nice list. Depends what you deem a successful signing. Are you meaning to say the definition of a good signing is remaining at the club?

On that standard, you'd be correct. I'd say though that there's quite a few more on the abroad list, who's made a real impact and been a significant part of getting us to where we are now.

It's to be expected that imports will be more hit and miss. I'd take a 1/2 shot at making a big impact from abroad, over a 2/3 shot at being solid, with a few big impacts in there, from English clubs. Which is what your list, very roughly, suggests to me.

Minor thing, technically Alderweireld was signed from abroad, even if his last football before us was PL.

Every single player we signed from an English club was a hit to varying degrees and none (bar Sissoko) were that dear.
Players signed from abroad have a less than 50% hit rate and were more expensive.

True, but replace the 12 players signed from abroad, with the average quality of those signed domestically, and we'd at best be going to Baku and probably be done for the season, rather than be going to Madrid.

All the N'Jie's and Holtby's of the this world doesn't change that.

The question on whether or not he's been a successful signing can't be answered solely by what we see on the pitch.
We may as well all pack up, then, because none of us knows what happens off the pitch. When Tottenham are signing players, however, I hope to Christ we do it with a view to getting some bang for our buck on the pitch, as opposed to someone who makes a good pre-match DJ and has a nice bedside manner.
Coaches need to be able to adapt to the talent they have, and the team they are facing. In that sense, the fact that he brings something to the table that goes against what we typically do, I think means he does belong on the team (or at least a player with his traits) as an alternative way to approach the game. Not the preferred way (not the only other way), but an alternative one.
I don't have an issue with a certain degree of pragmatism. But there are certain things I want to see in a striker. High up that list are good off-the-ball runs and good shooting ability. He has neither and has been a flop for us in our bread and butter competition, and his alarming lack of athleticism means that he cannot reliably press opposition defenders.

Dude, you may not rate him, but do you not reckon much of the "Llorente love" you speak of is cos of his CL exploits (as opposed to him being genuinely seen as some kind of footballing colossus)?
No, Airfixx Airfixx . It was there before he scored at the Etihad. Believe it or not, I often bite my tongue on this and many other issues, but today...
