I would take Wan-Bissaka, Ndombele and Ziyech for £155m

No, Airfixx Airfixx . It was there before he scored at the Etihad. Believe it or not, I often bite my tongue on this and many other issues, but today...

Such respect for forum harmony... I had no idea. :pochsmirk:

Personally, I think despite some admittedly rank performances on occasion, he's proved extremely useful overall and his output per minute is pretty good. Yeh, some of his goals were LCup etc. but someone still had to step up and score them. Older guy like that left to gather rust as much as he was early doors won't have helped either. Obviously, it's not pretty, so I understand why he'd offend based on the 'eye' test.

My concern is, as little gametime as our 2nd strikers get, we're likely to see a similar arc with other players too (Jansen?)... Thus if we're up for investing in a verstile Son-like AM instead then I pretty content to have Nando knocking about as a option even if it is only plan C with Son or Lucas running off of him.

I will take that as a yes. :pochsmirk:

You'd be right to as well.... :llorishowudoin:

(TBF, Stoned = focus & attention to detail for a regular smoker... )

I've conceeded to just about every other criticism you can throw at the guy in my synopsis, but we needn't debate this aspect... Output is tangibly measurable. His numbers were decent when thrown about on here in the past.

Are you back home yet?

Nah.... MRI on Thursday and the op is tbc. I'll be lucky if I'm home for the CL final at this rate.

You're right, of course, that it is conjecture. My "fact" comment is more of a cliche, and not to be taken literally.

That said, it is a fact that he was a difference maker. And, that's not conjecture, because I'm not saying nobody else "could" have made a difference, only that he did.

For your next "trick" (joke) I'd like to see you explain why a player Poch signed, and played, has no business being on a team coached by Poch; as stated by Five Five (paraphrasing, but that's an accurate assessment of his comment).

In that game, we had a choice. Continue to play the same way, and struggle to produce goals. Or start sending the ball long from deep. The latter worked, and it was a choice we had, and clearly the tactics changed. So, no, i don't think it's a false dichotomy specific to this one game. Five Five apparently would rather we not bring back Llorente and play that style when necessary, even if it means we don't make it to the Champions League final because we are unwilling to adapt.

You say it's a fact that it was a difference maker, but was it really? Might we not possibly have won the first leg against Ajax - as we did the first leg against a superior ManC team - if we had instead of playing an immobile Llorente (and an extra CB) played a more energetic "football" orientated line up and structure? Instead by playing Llorente in that first leg (and an extra CB) we effectively ceded control of the ball, and game to Ajax. And lets be straight, even in the second leg, for all his letting hail Mary's bounce of his head repeatedly, he still missed a fucking sitter and even the winner first came off DeLigt's leg - and even that narrative wouldn't have been available if their keeper hadn't wasted time, got booked and bought us the extra few seconds to score.

And I also think it wasn't smart to bring him into the City second leg either. We were leading that tie with two away goals, we lost a CM, we needed to just shore up the midfield, shell it and counter with the speedy Moura and Son, bringing on Llorente was fucking bonkers, we now had one man who couldn't run around and press - against the very dynamic City - and who was fucking useless on the counter. As luck would have it, he managed to arse the ball into the net from a rare set piece and the rest is history (and VAR) but just like Ajax the margins were about as slender as they get from being a very different outcome. And it was more luck that great tactics IMO that changed that narrative completely.

Bottom line, if a team has to resort to whacking the ball aimlessly up in the air, they've pretty much abandoned football in favour of sticking their dicks in the wind. And you don't need (a) Llorente to do that, just shove a CB up there.

Injury ravaged and missing Son via an accumulation of yellows, were we not? Eriksen & Dele hardly in stellar form either as we entered both 2nd legs.....

Sure Kane or Sonny may have been a preferable option... Then again Messi would have been useful too, but he wasn't available to us either.

FFS, Llorente delivered when we needed him most. Slay Poch for the tactics if you must, but surely Nando can catch a break on that front?
