Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Tielemans has had an interview where he has stated things are moving well in terms of moving to his next club. He names Man Utd and Spurs, and says he is flattered by their interest and considers them both huge clubs.

To me that rules out a move to Leicester as he is talking up a move to one of United and Spurs.
Indeed in his interview with the national team he stated that he doesn’t expect to go back to Monaco and when the journalist asked him if that could possibly mean returning to Leicester you could hear in the way he responded that Leicester is plan B

Who: Hercules
When: 4th June
Where: SC

We will (would) spend exceptional Funds on two signings together (at same time). There is some deals close, and confident will be completed within a quick ‘ish’ time.

We are going for it big from now on. Stadium and other commercial activities has put us in a brilliantly strong position, and within FFP. I have been very downbeat in past, but no more.

This twat makes me wish for zero signings.

It's of most benefit when tackling. If you have Mo Salah dribbling past you on your left side; do you really want to slide in with your weaker foot? Or use you right foot which forces you to have a stright leg and reduces your movement - Try it yourself and you will see what I mean.

Same goes for blocking crosses. The reaction time is slower when you have to step across your body and the tendency to turn your back is higher as you instinctively use your stronger foot.

Agreed but does it make a huge difference? I'm pretty sure Liverpool who only lost one league game all season have a group of centrebacks that are all right footed but don't quote me on that one. I'm not sure if it's a crucial thing or not but then again I've never played in defence so I'm a little oblivious in this department.

Matip, Gomez & Van Dijk, all right footers aren't they?

This was the guy (last TW ?) saying we had a transfer pot of £150m plus sales proceeds 'so downbeat in the past ' He's having a giraffe !

I honestly have never understood the whole needing to have a left footed CB on the left hand side of defence. It's a nice to have but is it vital??

Players like Candela made a massively successful career for themselves kicking with the opposite foot from the side they operated on and that was in a more marauding full back capacity so I don't get why this lust for a left footer in central defence is seen as an absolute must.

Is De Ligt and Van Dijk a left foot/ right foot partnership? Do all teams adhere to this or is it blown out of proportion? Personally I'd prefer two better quality right footers than settling for someone even 1% worse because they have a left peg. At an attacking level the foot you use can be key but I don't buy into the theory that it's a genuine must for someone either spraying it backwards, sideways or long or someone there to clear the teams lines etc

Not vital to have a left footer on the left, but certainly against top opposition the right footer played in the left may struggle as his opponent will try to always get past on his weaker side (left side) and if good enough will generally get past.

Amongst current players KWP was always a very good RB, but good enough in E youth to be played as LB as E had no better LB's. But in reality he was always maybe 90% as good on the left as on the right. I know he's a FB rather than CB, but same issues will occur.

Ideally we get a CB who is pretty much two footed - and I think Foyth is although he's generally played as RCB, but he's only played a dozen or so games. And if we don't get a LCB we choose between say Foyth and Davies as back up to Vertonghen until we do get a LCB.

BTW we have several very good CB's coming through academy, but other than CCV they would be too inexperienced to be considered a first team option next season I'd guess

Watch Toby when he plays on the left; his sweet distribution dries up because he has to shift the ball onto his stronger foot first.

Probably less of an issue if you're not talking 'ball-playing' CBs, but still....

Do you have Lo Celso's stats and maybe Eriksen as well - both more relevant comparisons than McGinn ?

Unfortunately, statsbomb put Bruno Fernandes' template as midfielder as opposed to attacking midfield/winger so comparisons with Eriksen for example wouldn't be under the same template.

I only added John McGinn for SausageVince SausageVince

Here is Lo Celso though at Betis:

Here is one they did when he was at PSG:

Compared with Bruno Fernandes in a weaker league.

In the ATTACKING MIDFIELD template though.

Here is peak Eriksen from 16/17:

And here is Lo Celso using that particular template.

Though worth noting it's an updated layout and the stats arent in the same order. "Pressure regains" on Lo Celo's image is where "Successful dribbles" is on Eriksens etc.

Looks like Joachim Andersen is off to the goons

Woolwich about to potentially spend £80,000,000 on Sampdoria players over the last two seasons.

It's quite funny. A team that's finished 9th, 10th, 10th, 15th over the last four seasons. This is what a lack of Champions League has done to them.

I do like Andersen though, I guess we probably couldn't guarantee him first team football like Woolwich could - don't really rate Praet all that much though, not in a challenge for top four and honours type of way and Torreira really went off the boil in the second half of last season.

Just to add, the red is Eriksen 17/18, the blue 18/19 up to about dec/Jan time I think (clear difference as this season he was being used more as an 8)
