Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yeh but still we did get to a CL final, hard to get their without being a ‘big club’, we have the stadium and the manager and a good squad.

We need to big ourselves up, these potential players are coming to Tottenham Hotspur, the best stadium/training ground on planet earth with a big future not Tottenham Hotspur the team from the 90’s stuck in mid table.

We can all interpret Pochs talk of being a big club and thinking like one but for me it implies not just Levy/Enic and their ambition in the transfer market but also the fans, we are not a little plucky team anymore. The 90’s is over just like the 60’s is long gone.

I support every part of that sentiment, but "bigging ourselves up" as bigger than e.g. RM, Barca or whoever is transparently lacking a certain credibility....

Not at all. I admire your faith & optimism. 20 pts is a big gap though. We would do amazing to finish ahead of either city or Liverpool. Liverpool did get a lot of luck but not 20 pts worth. We will need to spend a lot to bridge that gap.
I Don't think there much in it between us & Chelsea but now hazard has gone we should finish ahead of them. But they still have some good players. I disagree they will finish mid table though. They still should finish top 6.

We were very close to Liverpool and Mancity until we went on a run suddenly of not winning - just ran out of gas due to injuries.

We want get the injuries next season so provided we keep the same squad, replacing sure necessary and even adding too - and not have the post WC injuries - we should be not far from both this coming season.

We don’t have to say we are bigger than Barca just that we are big and have a great future. We are now arguably also in a stronger league than them with a much better stadium and training ground and hell we are RM’s feeder club anyway, the best finishing school in the business.

I think liverpool will be a bit worse next year. City about the same. The other 3 all depends on who they keep & sign. & obviously Chelsea depends on who they make manager too. Basically a lot of uncertainty about the other 3. I expect Liverpool & City to be a level ahead of them again. We need 3 or 4 good signings to reach that level I think. We shall see...

20 points is only 7 games. Having a team stay fit for a whole season is huge. Chemistry is tip-top, best players are actually playing. Competition for places... Morale stays high and no one has to fight back to form. It's a big psychological advantage.

Though, I do agree that we probably wouldn't have finished above them. But it would have been *much* closer.

Interesting that.
Clearly not moving for money as they would throw him silly money we would struggle to match. They could still beat any contract we put on the table, especially if they shift Pogba and Sanchez this summer.
I don't think RM or Barca are coming in for him this summer, especially not RM with their current outlay, so I reckon he will pen a new deal come august. They will struggle to offload many unwanted players this summer due to wages and the same reason will prevent any coming in as p/ex for Erisken.

If ever we wanted to make a statement that we've "arrived"

Who can even afford & would want neymar? Madrid already spent about 300m. Would Barca take him back? Too costly for juve. Not a pep type player. United could probably afford him but can't see him going there. Otherwise pogba for neymar swap!

Oh Come on..... If we hadn't been decimated by injuries, we'd have a) finished at least a lot closer to Liverpool (we were in the proverbial title mix at the turn of the NY) and b) waaaay above Chelsea.

That's not blind faith, that's an entirely reasonable assertion.
That’s fair . And actually we’re not a fan base fuelled by jingoism and the like

We were right in the mix on merit at one point
