Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

This is now a case of who blinks first. We need to hold our nerve... Betis seem to be begging for an improved offer from anyone, that's not a club wanting to keep a player, that's a club desperately trying to sell their assets for as much as they can and now. If the player has agreed terms and is happy with us they can refuse terms from other suitors, making a transfer to us more likely.

I wanted all the signing in by now, I wanted them all lining up for pre-season. Problem is it might have cost us another £20m for that luxury. That's quite a wedge.

We can only really asses the TW once ours and the European window has closed. If we sign all our targets then lose Toby, Rose, CE, we might not be too happy... there are just so many permutations it's difficult to get your head around.

I get the impression that if this transfer window ends the way it does and results turn bad some of our supporters would turn on Poch in an instant and wouldn't for one second point any fingers at Levy.

That's incredibly sad to see imo, maybe Levy should become manager, maybe then he would actually get some of the criticism go his way for once.

I can’t see that happening for even a moment, we are only too familiar with Levy by now.

No one would blame Poch.

I think selling Eriksen to Utd. would be a disaster - imagine a fully motivated, focussed Eriksen running their midfield? He strengthens them no-end for me.

Whether he'd go there I don't know, but I can imagine from his viewpoint that the longer things drag out, and the less likely Madrid are going to come knocking, he might just take the jump for the pay-rise alone.

Our window closing earlier than the European ones could really end up fucking us over.

I'm not so sure. Levy has a lot of goodwill from a huge percentage of the fan-base, those who remember the Sugar era. We've seen some dark times, worried we could be drifting away but where we are now is the polar opposite of that.

So sure a chunk of the fan-base will cut Levy some slack, if however we go into the start of the season without 'strengething' that goodwill will quickly dissipate and will be aimed at Levy not Poch.

Interesting point. Not something I had thought about in great depth I must admit re: Poch poor transfer acquisitions.

What I will say though is that he knows his system. He knows how to get us playing in an effective fashion. It is also hard to know who Poch wants in his team and doesn’t get. There may have been 3 or 4 players over the last 2/3 seasons who he has wanted in to actively improve the starting line up, but never got.

For the criticism of his potential poor transfers, there have been a few good ones in fairness.

As for Kane, he’s had a tough time with injury the last season and a half. I have high hopes for him for this season IF he can stay fit.

I've never faulted Poch on his coaching or in game management - except maybe timing of subs and occasionally I'd have gone for different subs, but maybe Poch was right.

But if you look at all players bought since Poch arrived, it's not that impressive - particularly when you look at the summer he arrived (Davies, Vorm - good solid squad players) Poch said he had no real input, Dele who was bought via David Pleat's insistence) etc. No youngsters bought to be superstars, unless you count Sanchez then our record signing - I had expected some cheaper younger players developed to be superstars whether bought in or from our academy but only Winks and now Skipp internally and none externally.

I do get the impression, across the board, that PL clubs are more reluctant to pay the demands of continental clubs.

The staggered window really does shaft the PL. It's obvious (and entirely reasonable) that continental clubs look to get an extra 30 to 40% on transfer fees when dealing with us. The moment our window slams shut, Lo Celso and Fernandes value drops (unless one of the giants is keen).

And offers for Eriksen will arrive at 12.01am on Friday morning.

Sad but predictable, to me this transfer window has been failure, no matter what happens. We got to the champions league final , we didn't spend for 2 windows and we still conduct business in the same way, i.e scrambling around to bring in players in the last couple of days of the transfer window. We know from what Poch has said this is not the way he wants things done.

If we can't change now when our stock is so high, we never will.

Poch has only gotten us this far due to a ground work that Levy has given him. It's not Poch that has built this club into a CL regular alone.

This is not to understate or underrate Poch in any way. But it is not by his grace alone that we are where we are. He was recruited by the club because they saw him as the best possible manager to carry us through the final stages of the stadium build and he has been given steady backing by the club and board in the process.

Levy's ground work includes
Appointing Santini
Appointing Hoddle
Appointing Ramos
Appointing AVB

All catastrophic bad decisions. He fell on his feet with Martin Jol and Harry Redknapp as emergency appointments then sent us backwards when he tried to upgrade them.

I've heard many times he didn't want Poch, he wanted LVG who would have been gone inside 2 seasons.

Levy gets far too much credit from far too many people.
If Poch has enough, fully, fully expect us to drop out of the top 4 for a number of seasons, if not indefinitely.

maybe Poch's eye for a player (or not) is the reason Levy will not splash the cash this TW ?

Tricky balance if true.

Levy needs advice from somewhere to decide which players to buy, so manager has to have some input.

Whilst I am critical of Poch transfer record as it's a very mixed bag, it's not downright bad.

Just could be vastly improved on, so in s sense if hope that in addition to Poch input there is another source of football input suggesting a few alternative players but that is a very difficult balancing act. At the end of he day Poch has to be happy with the players coming in so has to be happy with any suggestions made by others

Guess it's over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
No reason to pretend
We knew it had to end Thursday, this way
Yes, it's over, the Yids are gone
What's the use of tryin' to hang on?
Somewhere we lost Mr Levy
So few players left for THFC and it's clear to see

Too Much, Too Little, Too Late to sign someone for you.....
