A few days back in this thread, 'everyone' was gushing about his defensive stats which painted him to be the most productive DM in the league....

He changed his management company recently, so all this doesn't suprise me. I really don't think he is as good as he thinks he is. Saints is his level, he has too many lapses in concentration to be a top, top player. If and it's big if we could find a replacement who can complement JWP who is hard working and adds more goals to than PEH, then we should try and get as much as possible in the Summer for him.
Meh, we've had far, far better players leave. Been OK for us and vice versa, get the max £ we can and move on.

There was a moment recent game he was clear on right think Danny was in middle just needed decent cross not under real pressure he put it in the crowd. That summed him up for me.
All in all he’s decidedly average but would be a big loss. I think that pretty much summarises Saints.

Wouldn’t be overly upset losing him. Nowhere near the level Morgan, Wanyama and Lallana were when they left us. Replace him with that boy from Leeds. Kalvin Phillips.
Makes me laugh that he suddenly thinks he's a world beater he has some talent but what top three team is going to play someone that gives away possession so often?
I don't think he'll be much of a loss , Not as good defensively as Romeu and not as good offensively as JWP.
All 3 of our central midfielders are average, whether he stays or goes we need an upgrade.
We play high press football geared towards forcing mistakes from the opposition in the area's PEH plays. We also have quite low possession stats. You put any fit midfielder into our team and they'd have high stats for interceptions/recoveries/tackles etc.
Hojbjerg is actually overrated by our fans because of his fist pumping and badge slapping. They don't stop singing that bloody song when we have other much better players that don't ever get mentioned. He's clearly a million times better than any of us but in Premier League terms he's distinctly average. No shame in that, but I doubt he'd get much of a look in at a better team.
In my opinion, hojbjerg is an average PL player playing in a slightly below average PL team. I think we are his level. He isn’t a game changer, he isn’t (normally) terrible. If he left, would we (could we?) improve on him? Probably not with our virtually non existent budget. If he will stay we should keep him. Else it’ll be another team downgrade....He isn’t a patch on what a younger Romeu was.....
Gives the ball away a ridiculous amount of times. Puel dropped him for it and he’s never improved in that respect. Bottom half PL player as result. Strong CM in tackle, looks quite hard and good on tv interviews so not all bad.
Hojberg is basically Glenn Cockerill without the goals. Think how Morgan flopped after his big move, and he was universally admired and infinitely better than Pierre. I'm sure he will be sold, they all are, but I can't see him doing anything at Spurs or Woolwich or (more likely) Everton or Leicester.
I think it's right to say he might not be top 8 material, but also history tells us we'll replace him with something a whole lot worse....
Yeah i like him, but using those stats to justify it is of limited value, and he does give the ball away at critical times. No denying that either.

He's a pretty average premier league player. Couldn't see him getting into any top 6 sides. Everton or Newcastle (if their takeover goes through) would probably be the best he could do. Should be able to replace him relatively easily and I imagine JWP will be given the captaincy.
Hmmmmmm "Possession Won" what it doesn't say is having won the ball more often than not its suddenly turned into a Baked Spud just out of the oven or a Grenade with the pin out ....................I will add less so since Villa away. Be good to see him put the For Sale signs up by rattling in some goals instead of trying to knock Mrs Miggins false teeth out having smashed the ball into her chops up in row BB .
Or a better contract offer. Although I do expect that he’ll leave. Not that I’d be too disappointed.

Number of touches needed to bring the ball under control: 7 (1st)
Over hit passes to players in space, giving away possession: 354 (1st)
(FWIW I don't mind him but he's really got some work to do on his game before he's ready to consistently play for a much better team than us)
Player who thinks he is better than he really is. Probably really feels he has reached the big time already with his new agent.
I never understand why people run down our players. People really do have unrealistic expecations. He is ferociously passionate when he plays for us and is a player probably marginally above our level. Maybe if people got behind him he might stay and give even more.
At least Schneiderlin could pass a ball.
Why is it unrealistic to expect a professional footballer who came from Bayern Munich remember to be able to pass a ball?
I like PEH but let’s be honest, he’s nowhere near as good as Morgan was and in that bad run we had back in Oct/Nov he was by and large woeful. Thankfully he has improved in the last couple of months.
I hope the top 6 weren't watching today. If we get £35m for him it would be like a robbery.

He’s decent but I can’t see him starting ahead of Winks, Sissoko or Ndombele.
Could see him at Everton.

Have said before Jwp has carried him this season , every time he hasn't been along side him he's looked poor !

He's turd, and there's plenty of players out there who can do a better job for a fraction of the price.
That said, our hopes of identifying and signing one of those players rest on our scouting team, so......
Well, someone who would offer true protection to allow our more dynamic midfielders to do their thing. Not some odd-job, fist-pumping plodder.
Sadly for Hojbjerg his best asset is his passion, which is usually only effective for rallying cries on non-match days.

I'd need to know exactly what stats you are referring to before I could comment. I know he has a reasonable decent tackle/interception stat - but it's not even the highest in Southampton's midfield - and Southampton play a very aggressive tactical game (they are the second highest tackling team collectively in the PL.
Last season he had a good combination of tackle/ball progression stats but Hasenhuttl plays that way, press, tackle get transition forward quickly, so you have to weigh it all up.
As I've said previously, if we were going to play a 3CM and we were going to convert him into a more simplistic positionally disciplined 6, he would probably be an improvement on what we have, but also as I've said above, that says more about us than it does about him.
I don't want him, I'd genuinely rather give Skipp or even Marsh a crack for 12 months to do the 6 job, rather than spend money on another average player who'll do a pretty ordinary or sub par job. We've done too much of that recently.

Shows abit how underappreciated Hojbjerg is really - probably because he plays for Southampton perhaps?
To be fair, that also shows how underrated Winks is when it comes to carrying and moving the ball forward. Winks is probably the most un-Mourinho DM so will be interesting to see where he fits in when we have an actual decent DM in the team.
Hojbjerg/SkippI actually think is a pretty good team to build on. We could probably do with upgrading on Sissoko, perhaps with Soumare who is definitely more a deep lying playmaker than a defensive midfielder.

People stick us in the big 6 all the time, it’s doesn’t mean that we are as big as the top dog or top two.
6th biggest army in the world? Pakistan. Hardly a juggernaut in comparison to the other top 6 and people need to wise up to that notion

Got it, but having better defensive stats than Winks (or Sissoko for that matter) isn't hard, I think last season Eriksen possibly averaged the same tackles per game as Winks and Sissoko.
That's one of the reason's we're looking for a player for that position. I just don't think Hojbjerg is the answer.

I think we'd be hard pressed to do worse than what we have right now DM wise, but I'd be disappointed if we pursued this, we've bought too many average footballers recently, and that's a big reason we are struggling.
Lets just give Skipp a run of games and then make a decision, it's not like missing out on Hojbjerg will be a catastrophe. If we want a bargain option could go and get Sangare for about 15-20m, and he's got some flaws but he's got shitloads more potential and raw ability with and without the ball than Hojbjerg. And is younger.
Honestly, I know fans can be upset if a player is going to leave but if that many don’t rate him then I don’t want him.
As far as I was aware the stats stacked up well in general...
Not debating your opinion; more curious what you you made of the stats and where you felt they fell down compared to the 'eye test' verdict.
Personally (and this doesn't mean much! LOL), I'd rather we didn't solve this issue by buying young, raw and from a 'maybe' league... We need a player for n-o-w to kick-start this team and give our mooted CM saviours (GLC & TN) the platform they need to play.
....Isn't Sangare yet another in a long line of not-quite-a-DM types?
I've no particular boner for Hojbjerg..... I just want a proper DM who we believe can hit the ground running.
