As far as I was aware the stats stacked up well in general...
Not debating your opinion; more curious what you you made of the stats and where you felt they fell down compared to the 'eye test' verdict.
Personally (and this doesn't mean much! LOL), I'd rather we didn't solve this issue by buying young, raw and from a 'maybe' league... We need a player for n-o-w to kick-start this team and give our mooted CM saviours (GLC & TN) the platform they need to play.
....Isn't Sangare yet another in a long line of not-quite-a-DM types?
I've no particular boner for Hojbjerg..... I just want a proper DM who we believe can hit the ground running.
Young, raw but with genuine potential is still better than not very good but experienced. And it's not like Sangare is that raw, he's been starting for 3 seasons, got about 80 games on his mileage clock. His flaws are no worse than Hojbjerg's flaws, just that his come with more talent and potential attached.
I think the chances of us going out and buying a top notch solution that doesn't come with some kind of compromise is minute.
And I certainly wouldn't worry about shopping in France, the French league remains the most successful place to shop in Europe. No European country produces as many good footballing exports as they do.
It's not the talent within the league that concerns me; it's the 'adapting to the EPL' shit..... Using this season as a measuring stick if whoever it can't hit the ground running and takes 3,4, 5 months to adapt we may as well write next season off as well.
I guess in terms of "compromises" I think; I guess I'd be willing to sacrrifice ceiling for EPL-ready even if that means they would be a transitional/short-term signing rather than one we have earmarked for multiple contracts.
Hojbjerg would come fairly cheap and we could easily flip him on for a similar fee in a year or two if his best doesn't get much better and he's still only be 26......
Just riffing, I guess.....
Remind me again Blakey; who was your A1 pick if you had a few quid to spend?
All great options but how many do you think we can afford considering we have very minimal money available?Top of my wish list would be:
Camavinga - but he is raw - he's still only 18. But that bothers me less than you. Even then he'd still be a massive upgrade now on what we have now and I think is going to be an outstanding DM/6 prospect. Voracious appetite.
If we wanted pure PL experience and a really one dimensional but very good defensive player then I'd think about Ndidi. Much better than Hojbjerg without the ball.
If we were absolutely stuck and looking for a short term fix, I'd happily take Alan (29) if Napoli wanted to give him away, put him on a two year deal or something.
Another really experienced player (27yo) who would suit Mourinho to a tee IMO would be Brozovic (Inter) but he might struggle a bit with the PL if we changed to a manager who wanted to play a higher tempo game, he has a 40m Euro release clause - but Inter are desperate for cash for FFP - I think.
I also still really like Rabiot, not a pure, pure 6/DM but I think he could easily play as one for us - or in a double pivot - and be a massive upgrade on the likes of Winks, Sissoko and Dier.
I’m happy with this signing as he’s a step up than our shiet midfield atm
Especially if it means never seeing sissoko play central ever again.

There are other statements from their supporters about him - YouTube, post match videos (from different seasons), etc. Also, I don't think the comments posted here were the only ones out there. I've seen ohters that really respected the player and the professional Hojbjerg is for Southampton.Honestly, I know fans can be upset if a player is going to leave but if that many don’t rate him then I don’t want him.

In any case, fans opinions are always changing. Right now, the fact that he is leaving counts a lot. Another detail is that his numbers (and probably his overall contribution for the team) were better last season.

Okay I didn’t see that bit but I still don’t think we have the £25m available especially when our full backs need changing tooThey were the options assuming we had some money to spend (as per Airfix's question I was responding to).
There are cheaper options I like the look of like Sangare (Toulouse), Diawara (Rome) and I don't think Allan or Rabiot would cost loads. Even Brozovic might be available for 25-30m in the new climate ?
As much as I agree with the transfer ban, they still paid £40m for Kovacic and £50m+ for Pulisic during it.People are clearly forgetting Chelsea sold Morata and Hazard and just had a transfer ban. Clearly had cash to spend that the rest of us don’t.
Champions elect Liverpool couldn’t even afford Werner at a bargain price. Woolwich like us looking st loans and frees.

While I agree with this - we need an urgent long-term solution for our wingbacks
All 3 positions are as important as each other.
Good news, still being linked with Eze.
Bad news, it's from the Daily Fail.
One of the more promising youngsters in the Championship. 12 goals and 8 assists this season as mainly a attacking midfielder. Can also play as a winger. 4 goals and 4 assists last season so a definite spike in output this season.
