This story has been doing the rounds about Rakitic for a while, no real strong sources seem to be around though.


In an interview with Offside Mag, a Spanish sports website, the central midfielder - who was playing for Sevilla at the time - was asked about his thoughts on the decision of Fifa to fine then-president of the Croatian Football Federation, Vlatko Markovic, for comments he made saying that "in no way could a gay man play in the national team" and that "fortunately, football is only played by healthy people".

Asked to respond, Rakitic allegedly said that while he respects gay people, he would no more want them in his life than he would a black person, a fat person or a dwarf.

"I respect homosexuals, but I do not want those people in the locker room. I would not leave a team for that, because I respect a homosexual equal to a black, a fat or a dwarf, but if possible I prefer not to have gays in my life," he allegedly said.

So you’re going to take one comment from him instead of 5 years of evidence where we constantly played our best team in cup competitions and Pochettino was clearly visibly shattered when we narrowly lost out? The man was ambitious sure and really wanted to win a PL or Champions League, but this narrative that he “disrespected” the cup competitions is just nonsense.

It's not just about his team selection, it's more his language. Why waste time talking down the competitions? Just pick your team and get on with it. Telling the press and the players that a cup game is not important is not going to build a winning mentality. The most important game is the next game, no matter the competition.

A manager who has never won anything has no business belittling the cups. We all know that they are not on the same prestige level as the league and CL but winning something can be the first step towards winning something big. Maybe if he had won something, Poch wouldn't have been overlooked for all these big jobs. Maybe we could have actually handled the nerves of the CL final.

Of course. I'm not saying that he is perfect. He's made mistakes. But he's getting way more abuse than is deserved. People just seem to hold him to this mythical standard that Walker had, despite Walker also being very prone to mistakes as brainfarts.

Again, not saying that Walker was shit. But he was way more prone to errors than some seem to remember.

You asked where disrespected the trophies and have been given two separate articles where he does that, plus using domestic semi finals like experiments for lab rats on a hamster wheel (Son LB before you ask “when???”)
