I agree. But how are we unloading dead wood like Winks, Sissoko, Dier, etc. in this market? Buyers will be few and far between, given the financial impact of the pandemic, and none of these players are especially attractive to anyone who might be buying.

And on the other side, where is our money coming from? We bought this beautiful new stadium to turn it into a giant cash register, and as soon as that became possible, the pandemic hit--so we've got all of the debt and none of the benefit. And if we miss Champions League for a second straight season, that is our other major source of expected cash.

So, no good prospects for getting players out except as giveaways, no cash to make impact buys. Hard to see how this isn't going to be a frustrating summer.
 
For me we need to get rid of

Winks
Dele
Sanchez
One of Bergwijn/Lucas (I think Lucas is a far better player, but with Bergwijn being pretty new and younger, I feel like Lucas is probably the one to make way tbh)
Don't renew Vinicius or Bale's loan

And bring in:
New top tier CB
Number 10
Right winger
Bring Skipp and Parrott back from their loans
Ideally I would say a back up striker, but we need to get a very specific fit to be back up for Kane, with how Vinny has been used this season I would say we could even give Parrott or Scarlett that role

That would give us:

I think you have to look at more swap deals/using players as make weight to get guys you want and bring the cost down.

I suggested this before with Winks and a team like Norwich for one of their younger guys (Aarons, Cantwell, Buendia). Should be some other teams with interest in Winks that aren’t aiming for the top 4.

I don’t know what the salary like for guys like Sissoko, Dier, Moura, Lamela, Sanchez but hopefully there are teams that we can move them to.

The whole back 4 bar Reguilon needs upgrading.

Here's the truth a lot of players there are ok to be squad players /backup etc.. but we've got to a point where they've become part of our first XI.

That I blame on ENIC/Levy allowed the squad to stagnate like that.

Perhaps Mourinho will do better with better CB'S and a RB.

I think in the league we need to give Tanganga and Rodon a chance together, cant be any worse than 2 of Toby, Dier and Sanchez!

I can't believe we have gone from having the best CB partnership of peak Toby and Jan to what we have now, it's not all to do with under investment though as Sanchez wasn't cheap and Poch wanted Foyth and got him and then tried to turn him into a RB. We do need to invest in a quality Centre back though, hopefully we have already picked someone and can get a deal done in the summer.
It still leaves right back though, Doc isn't good enough and Aurier is always ready to fuck up, plus his contract is expiring soon so he needs to either sign a new deal or be sold or he leaves on a free next summer!
I think if we somehow make CL football next and invest that money in our defence and clear out the deadwood we would be looking a lot better! We also have the likes of Skipp and Sessengon to bring back.
 
Time we start buying some fucking quality players instead of PSG rejects, Championship players and so on. We spent a lot on Ndombele but you could see why. We spent a lot on Lo Celso but you could see why. Sure he’s been a bit unfortunate with injuries but I think when he’ll be fit, he’ll be an essential player in our team.
We bought Reguilon and we could see why. We need a proper and I mean proper CB and a RB. We can’t rely on clowns like Doherty and Aurier for another season.

Toby is done, Sanchez is a calamity, Rodon is raw and needs a good CB partnership to cope with the level of Premier League imo, if Tanganga is not ready just send him on loan, Dier is a donkey for years and needs to be shipped out or be a squad player at best.

I would have loved someone like Dias, pricey but you know this guy would improve the starting 11 massively.
 
Looking at the links/rumoured players we’re interested in there’s players out there who could improve our squad without costing astronomical amounts of money. Factor in Covid financial hit and contract situations there are bargains to be had.

GK - Pope
RB - Aarons, Lamptey, Celik
CB - left sided and all young - Botman, N’Dicka, Badiashile)
CB - right sided - Skriniar, Milenkovic
CM - Sabitzer, Soumare
AM - Damsgaard
S - Ings

Given the amount of players who may leave in the summer there’s options out there that could replace them and improve the squad for similar fees.

Skipp and Sessegnon will be returning to bolster our squad and I would personally like to incorporate Clarke as well and let him develop in the cup games.
