Totti Totti MouraThat MouraThat

Agree with both of your analyses about what the squad needs. We just need to bear in mind that with another season of no supporters, the financial restraints will be on once again.

This would be my thought process if I were in Levy's shoes:

Aurier (10M) → Lamptey (30M)
Sanchez (25M) → Skriniar (45M)
Sissoko & Lamela (5M) → Skipp (loan return)
Alli (40M) → Sabitzer (35M)
Bale (8M, wage) → Olise (8M)
Lucas (15M) → Sessegnon (loan return)
Vinicius → Weghorst (25M)

~£35M net spend, and I think we'd have improved our team in all departments.
I like this rough idea although

a) I'd keep Moura

and b) Lamela and Sissoko , surely more than £5m between them?

Also I feel at £45m you could perhaps get even better than Skriniar.

Great post but annoying and depressing in equal measure. There are others, we scouted Maddison at Coventry and Norwich and didnt bother bidding, scouted and were keen on Ben Godfrey but went for the cheaper option in the summer, Godfrey is already looking very good. We dont seem to target players and be pro active, just see how the wind blows and who becomes available. As ever with trying to save money it becomes a false economy as you need to go back into the market again to replace the cheap dud you purchased.
FFS I had a feeling we were in talks with Dias.

That's so fustrating.

He would've improved us so much.

I dont. I've got a woman. Dont play Fifa either as I have a job.

They are clearly bigger needs and a quality playmaker and quality CB are unlikely to come cheap.
- the poor CBs forces the backline and midfield to play too deep and makes it diificult to build from the back. A top quality CB will transform the back line and bring some needed organization and stability.
- the lack of a CM playmaker makes it diifult to retain possession and have offensive rythm.
- Neither Aurier nor Doherty can be relied upon as starting RB.
- We need a quality backup that can fill in for both Kane and Son without our goal scotring threat going to zero.
- Need a young GK backup/starter to replace lloris.

Compared to those issues, we still have serviceable options for RW in Bergwijn, Moura and Lamela (and possibly Dele). The creativity we currently lack will be improved with a playmaking CM, which will free up Ndombele and increase possession. Add the lack of funds and typical higher cost of attacking players, and the value proposition becomes very low.

I was saying the the RW would be cheap(ish) to get not the CB or CM.

Bergwijn may be good enough but whether it is him or the role Jose forces him to play he has not been close to good enough so far. Moura, Lamela, Dele are definitely not good enough, even as back-ups they are poor options.

I would rather go with Doherty at RB than Bergwijn/Moura at RW.

I said that CB and CM were equally as important, for me at a minimum we should get a new CB, CM, RW and really also a RB, AM and back-up striker. There may be some overlap here though as if you get someone who can play RW but also fill in at striker maybe you cover two bases or get a guy who can be an AM and RW then you could "cheap" out that way to fill needs.

agree with all of that. defenders with a bit of quality on the ball does allow the midfielder to go a bit higher. then couple that with having a midfield consisting of winks or sissoko no wonder why we are camped in our own half.

would pull someones pants down for dele and get what we can. might have to only add 15 mill to get a player like sabitzer.

doherty imo has the rest of the season to show some worth, auriers had years and any sane rational fan can see hes a liability and not good enough.

Depends on player, Depay was rumoured to go to Barca for about 15m if I recall correctly. Wouldn't like Draxler even for free.
Problem is it breaks wage structures, not the cost itself. If I were Kane I'd go mad if Donnarumma was paid the same money I earn.
Depay would easily fit into our wage structure. He's Lyon's top earner at around like 35 grand a week or something like that.

The others would probably force us to rock the structure a bit more. Even if we are slowly moving the salaries upwards.

If I were Kane on over £10m a year, I’d be wanting everyone to be on around the same salary as that would probably show the level of quality in the side.

Any good out wide? If he’s only good through the middle, he’d never get a game.
Yes and his ability to play on the wing too makes him the best striker signing who’s mildly realistic that fits Levy’s love of a resale value.

Plus, that blistering pace in a low-block heavy counterattacking side that Jose employs would be a match made in hell for the rest of the league.
