Bit different though when it’s literally a country supporting you or a gangster mega oil baron. They can’t just buy 1-2 decent players they can build a superstar 20+ man team and no need to sell to fund anything.

Only way to top the current situation is if the CCP of China bought a club then spent billions getting Messi, Haaland etc.
i'm not disagreeing with the ethics, i'm just stating that since the beginning of time it's generally been the clubs that spend the most, or have the biggest financial backing that win. Leeds, Blackburn, etc. lots have done it.

As the game has become more commercial it has attracted the next level of wealthy backers, some with very questionable sources of their fortunes.

DIsagree. Forest earnt the money to spend on Francis by being successful. They, or Liverpool or United didn't hoover up every good player, every good youngster. Football used to be cylical but what City and Chelsea have done is move the playing field. They may have the odd, rare season they dip but generally they will be top 4 and winning trophies until something is done.
yeah you're probably right, although I have a feeling they were braking transfer records before winning much, even back then.

I also think back then it was possible for a single player to have more of an impact on your success. Best, Greaves, etc. Now it's much more of a collective effort.

Anyway, i'm on the same page with City and Chelsea but just feel this isn't a new scenario, it's just exacerbated and we're more aware of where the wealth really comes from.

Surely you see the difference between random tabloid gossip and a player not turning up for training on the day he is due back?

Either all reporters have the info wrong and Spurs have given him extra holiday in which case this is a non story or he has simply not showed up for training.
If it is the former I struggle to understand why this wouldn't have filtered down to the likes of Gold and they could have put this story to bed very easily.

If it's the latter then Spurs need to come out with a strong stance on this.

My understanding is that he's due back for training tomorrow... Today is about covid tests....

My point remains; the club aren't wise to respond to every minutia thrown up out of the gutter.

Once i park the impatient fan perspective in me; I'm more than fine about the clubs handling of the media.

From city I would love to have Laporte. Fits our needs totally. Great player and not a starter there.

and left footed 6 foot 3 aswell would compliment romero excellent.

our defence would be a rock with those two
If Laporte world rather sit on the bench at City, that's his prerogative. But if Paratici isn't trying to convince him to come be the starting CB next to Romero for the next 4 years it's basically sabotage.
