Transfers Summer 2022 Transfer Thread.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It’s not a disaster if we don’t come 4th. It’s a disaster if:

A Conte isn’t backed in the summer with 6-8 good players and Conte decides the club aren’t serious about being top dog.

B on the back of it Kane pushed to leave.

C we fuck up the manager search AGAIN and have a dodgy transfer window and pre-season

Would prefer us to look at Mikel Merino over Palinha. Top 4, CL quality player, wouldn't be out of place at City or Liverpool.

My main worry with not coming 4th is that it will result in all these scenarios playing out

We came 4th 4 times in a row and the club just took Poch for granted, 18 months with no signings. Other clubs finish outside of top 4 and get their transfer targets. It must not be an excuse for the club.

Whether it is equity sale, stadium sponsorship, player sales the club need to understand Conte is a chance the club may not get again or at least for a long time. Raise the capital and give him the players he wants.

If Conte is backed and stays I would imagine Kane stays (and City now are likely to get Haaland anyway). We could come 4th and not back Conte and have Kane try and fuck off anyway.

4th will help no question but if the club are faking their support for Conte it is just a band aid and little else. If we are a serious club we have to back managers properly and not just back them if we get CL football.

In short coming 5th should not be the excuse for not massively fixing the team, it would be the excuse of a loser club.

can he head the ball?
Yes he can. He had a big injury last season and returned a couple months ago. Can be a too center back imo.
Nabil Bentaleb Nabil Bentaleb Benfica1904 Benfica1904

Any good?
Ehhhh. He was really good last season but very underwhelming this season. He’s a pure DM that can also play CB if needed, pretty tall player. Would he better than winks? Fuck yeah lol. He’s a better defender than Hojberg but not more dynamic. He would be our best defensive midfielder in the defensive sense. However he’s not a creative like we need.

Football London reporting Woolwich are interested in Aaron Hickey. Will be a good pickup for whoever gets him. I'd like us to be in for him, but not sure he fits the bill of sure-fire PL starting wing-back which is what we need from the off next season if Conte is sticking around.

You’re right about pretty much all this but there’s also one more thing - he would be our best passer of the ball after Kane. His passing range is excellent for a defensive midfielder. If we get him you guys will be very surprised.

Now just thinking out loud (started this thought-train in Winksy thread), but ...
What a change might this coming summer see ?!?!
Winks (12 mEUR)
Moura (10 mEUR)
Ndombele (0)
Lo Celso (30 mEUR)
Royal (15 mEUR)
Regulion (20 mEUR)
Sanchez (15 mEUR)
Rodon (10 mEUR)
Gollini (0)
CCV (6 mEUR)
Clarke (0)

I think almost all of them will leave. That is full XI of players. Out of whom ofc latter 4 have had essentially 0 impact.

But just for lolz - what a squad

-----------Gollini-----------
-Sanchez-Rodon-CCV---
Royal---------------Regulion
------------Winks------------
--Lo Celso-----Ndombele-
------Clarke-Moura-------

:D :D :D would not want to see this team in action, that is for sure :D :D :D

That would mean that for next season we have
Lloris, Doherty, Romero, Hjojberg, Son, Kane, Dier, Sessegnon, Kulusevski, Bergwijn, Tanganga, Skipp, Bentancur, Davies + then Sarr, Gil and Parrott as potential returnees, who might easily all head out to next round of loans.

If that happens, we would need
2 CBS (at least 1 top quality)
1 RWB and 1 LWB (at least one of the two has to be proven quality)
1 CM dynamic CM with passing ability (top quality)
1 attacking player (top quality)
And a backup GK
That would mean 7 incomings, out of whom 4 have to be top quality; 2 can be bit more of squad options and 1 backup.

Not fully impossible task, but still quite football-manageresque
So after such revolution it might mean that squad would be something like -
GK: Lloris, Johnstone (+Austin/Whiteman)
CB: Romero, Dier, Davies, Tanganga, Botman + another CB(?)
Fullbacks: Doherty, Sessegnon, New Player 1, New player 2
CM: Skipp, Bentancur, Hjojberg, Sarr, New top-CM
Forwards: Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Bergwijn, New top attacking player

That would be 22 players + then some academy youngsters to add to it.
I believe it would be doable with only like 135 mEUR net spend if we deal well. Based on numbers presented we could get something like 118 mEUR from departures (I think it can be few mil to one-or-other side, but on average it should be correct ball-park). And Johnstone would come as free transfer. That would mean we could have 118+135 = 253 mEUR, on average for reminder 6 players it would mean 41,3 mil each.
Or if 4 have to be top quality, let's assume
- 50 mil for top quality CB
- 45 mil for top quality WB
- 60 mil for top quality CM
- 65 mil for top quality Attacker
total of each 220 mil; and we could take 2x cleaver punts for 16,5 mEUR

Oh, on paper it all seems SO easy :D :D

Questionable - they’ll still be managed by Artwatta. He’s not as big a draw as you think and even IF they got CL, knocked out in group stages.
If Woolwich get CL football this season, especially after losing their first 3 games and being 9 points behind us then, Arteta will be painted in the media as Pep 2.0
Whether or not he's a good coach I don't even know. But getting top 4 ahead of Spurs and Man United after their last couple of seasons is an achievement. Players aren't that bright so they'll lap it up.

I don't know why the above split into multiple quotes
But is this your day job?
