As far as I could tell, the OG point was about buying domestic talent from below; not age.
Fair enough. I felt it was implied as you’d unlikely ever sign a 27 year old who has never played about championship level, but the semantics don’t overly matter 😊
Then again: Holtby, Siggurdson, Lamela, Jansen, Sanchez, Bergwijn, N'jie, N'koudou, Foyth, blah blah..... All 22 or under at time of signing. Even the likes of Chadli (23), Chirices (23), Aurier (24), Paulinho (24), Wanyama (24).
Main thing I take from this is that buying in bulk is the best way when signing less experienced players (Though Sigurdsson, Wanyama were already proven in this league and Wanyama, along with Chadli, were clear successes). A bit moneyball but it works.

What doesn’t work is the eggs in basket approach that seems to have developed since the second half of Pochettino’s tenure. You are of course right that playing at a higher level means you have less ability to take a chance on ‘unproven’ players, but I definitely think there’s an element of forgetting what got to us where we, erm, got.

Juan Cuadrado as an understudy RWB... maybe a yes to that - but not as 1st choice. He'll be 34 before the end of this season. His last venture in the EPL, with Chelski, wasn't exactly a success.

Cuadrado has been brilliant this season for Juve and Conte loves him as a player

Forget the age because I'm sure Conte isn't worried about age, but if we get Cuadrado & Perisic for free they would both be significant upgrades on our current wingbacks

If u wanna buy a playet from Bruges u should go after De Ketelaere. Much bigger talent imo.

For a LWB Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht is 1 to follow!
I have mentioned de Ketelaere before (during the January transfer window). Thing is, in Conte's formation he'd only fit in as a CF, whereas in a 4-3-3 formation he could also play as CAM.
Meaning, if he joined Spurs he'd be Kane's understudy, and I doubt he would like that. Unless Conte plays 2 CF, but then Son still would be the choice player besides Kane.

Cuadrado wouldn't be a long term signing, but it's unlikely that Conte is long-term anyway, and he would be a gigantic improvement at RWB. He didn't settle at Chelsea, but the move to RWB reinvigorated his career.

I haven't seen any other names of RWB targets that blow me away at any rate, so Cuadrado could do a job for a few seasons.

If we put in a bid for Livramento and it is accepted, would Chelsea be able to do anything or exercise any existing options to stop us while under their current ban and restrictions?

If not, might be a fun time for a lil raid... ::cruel smile::

"Paging Don Levy... You have a call!"
