I think Bissouma would be an incredible signing a midfield 4 of Bissouma, Skipp, Hojbjerg and Bentancur would be unreal. Bissouma as well as being quite a destructive defensive player is also very good on the ball.

Great player.

Maybe he's a bit more progressive with the his passing than I realise, but good in terms of ball retention and dribbling.

Obv has to get past the other "Issue".

When would we expect to know the outcome of that?

Yep.

No idea.

Also if there is a type of midfielder we need it's probably another player with real class on the ball rather than a holding player imo. In the two midfielder setup, you need all-rounders which we have 3 of. Phillips would slot in nicely but will be expensive and is a bit more of the same with PEH and Skipp. And I love PEH more than most. But the difference Bentancur's technical ability has brought us is immense. We need another player who can pass with both feet and really control the game. Another classy option there would really solidify that area for us.

Totally agree. Stuff paying that for Phillips, you could get Ruben Neves for £10m/£20m less. He's more what we need but suspect we'll go cheaper and prioritise wing backs/centre back/forward. Bissouma with a year left on his contract would be cheap but again more in the Skipp/Hojbjerg style.

The thing I like about Bissouma is he is a better ball carrier than probably any of these guys. So in that way he atleast adds something different. Bissouma and Eriksen return and I'd be happy.

Skipp
PEH
Bentancur
Bissouma
Eriksen
Sarr

Would be fucking awesome! .....Would be so tempting to go 352 (in which case you'd add Kulu to the mix too and loan out Sarr for another year).

Do we know definitely which system Conte prefers? If he had the players would we go 352?

It seems he used that most at Inter and the 343 at Chelsea but I haven't followed his career that closely.

I think it might be an emergency system if Kane went down. Son and Bergwijn as a two up top with an extra body in the middle. We'd definitely need more creativity in there to make that work without Kane though.

Not definitively. As you say it's a mix-bag of 343 and 352.

Agreed on that front.....Whoever we get to back-up Kane there's obviously gonna be a big drop-off in terms of both creativity and finishing, so mixing it up would be a smart way to go.... Especially if we're talking EL rather than CL next season where players like Berg & Lucas can be relied upon to start and chip in with goals. I think Kulu could do a shift as one of 2 CFs in that system too.... Or indeed as one of the 3xCMs(*).

(*Defo more suited to either than the fanciful suggestions of him assuming WB duties at times.)

Derby County could bag a sizeable fee for 15-year-old goalkeeper Jack Thompson, with Spurs, Manchester City and Chelsea interested in the England youth international. (Sun)

Really cannot see us buying another 2 CM's this summer with all the other positions we need to fill, unless Conte is going to play 4 at the back (so possibly no need for a new CB and we might then not need wingbacks) with a 3 man CM.

But I don not think that's likely.

Either way Sarr has been less impressive at Metz this season, so I think a loan next season is almost certain.

But Alfie Devine will probably be too young to loan out, but still mature enough to make a few cameos, so I see us with 4 CM's next season with Devine as well (White on a Championship loan), so possibly one CM in with Winks maybe off.

I think we may have had this chat before, but Eriksen would very much be a utility man.... He could deputise for the current iteration of Kane, play in a CM3, play as one of the wider players in a front 3; or maybe in a front 2 as well.

Whether we went down that path or not; I'd still want another bonafide CM to add to the mix to make up the 4 you noted.

If he’s our long term replacement for Hugo we’re in trouble

I'm not sure that's its a given that he's definitely our long term replacement - more likely the offer is to become our 2nd GK and see how things roll.

He's played in both PL and Championship and is an England international GK, and aged 29 has plenty of experience - so more than able to be our no 2 GK whilst Conte evaluates the longer term.

And he qualifies as HG so frees up Gollini's's 'Overseas trained' squad place to get in another player in a different position - which is smart thinking given we have vacant HG positions.

Not sure you and I have had this chat.

Eriksen used to play as a CM3 at Ajax as I recall - not sure he was great at playing in a CM2 at Spurs though.

With a 25 man squad (and we might only get to say 23 players due to a shortage of HG players) its difficult to get more than 2 players per position, so playing a CM2 we can only get 4 CM's in the squad (suggesting an upgrade to Winks only), and similarly with 3 forwards can only have 6 players in the squad - so with Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Bergwijn, Moura and a likely (given his form at Valencia) returning Gil we have our 6 and with us needing another striker for preference could be difficult to squeeze a returning Eriksen into the squad. Quite like the idea of a returning Eriksen, just a question of being able to shoehorn him into the squad
