Suggestion online seems to be that getting RB Leipzig to part with him for anything but joke money is the bigger problem.

They supposedly turned down €60m last season already. Don't see us paying even more.

We should walk away from that kind of fee anyway.. once it gets in to ridiculous territory you’re putting silly pressure on the arriving players shoulders. Fair play if it’s an in his prime player like VVD but this guy is still a young CB.

You don't think I think we will get four wingback because we need them do you? Where the fuck have you people been? You know what's peak Internet logic the fools who think a bunch of people shooting g the the breeze on a football forum makes things happen. All you folk worried about Danny's balance sheet should unpucker a bit. I've want an alternative top class center foward to Kane for six years....it didn't happen I don't have powers.

Wind it in, mate.... It's got nothing to do with your boring Levy-isms. It's got nothing to do with thinking you have influence either.....

A forum is an exchange of ideas.

Too many signings in 1 window = clusterfuck and for that reason alone it is a bad idea.

Got Ndombele written all over it......

Leave it clubs like Chavski who would just swallow the hit and write another fat cheque for someone else if he bombs.

Pau Torres might be a runner. Good player. He knew of our interest last year and was tempted but playing CL for Villerreal was enough to keep him, Fair enough.

If he wants a move now for a new experience, I'd say we have an excellent chance.

Spot on I think it worked against Deligt. People thought the were getting the second coming.

Yeah, it happens a lot. Joao Felix is a brilliant talent but that silly fee will always be held over him. Ousmane Dembele is probably the best example. When you pay record breaking fees for players who haven’t fully developed you’re taking a huge risk.

Overpaying in general can become a big anchor for a player. I do think it’s impacted Grealish a lot, the level of expectations he faces vs his actual ability (a good but not elite player) is silly.

I was really underwhelmed by him both in the Euros and in the CL, but I’m sure there’s regular La Liga watchers who know a lot better about what he offers.

Again though, the fee would be huge.. and at that point you better get it right.

Things seems to have gone quiet on here regarding last summer's "must have" Jules Kounde.

Wasn't there massive spaffing about Lacroix too?

In fairness I think Kounde is pretty good. But again, not for the kind of fee Sevilla want. Screw paying that kind of fee for a CB unless he's something truly special like Van Djik.

As for Lacroix, I'm at least partly convinced some of his hype was generated because he's very good on FIFA. I seem to remember sometime after we were linked he got sent off a bunch of times. Again though, young centre backs are inconsistent so not surprising..

Ditto fuck loads of their signings tbh.

Spent an absolute fortune on attacking players in the last 3/4 years and aside from Havertz (overpriced/underwhelming too?) they've all quickly become bit-parters.

The financial buffer of their youth set-up really has kept them from the skids.

Yeah they're nowhere near as good as Liverpool or City when it comes to transfers. Which I attribute to the fact those two clubs have tailored their recruitment to a particular style of play/manager, whereas Chelsea chop and change.

City pretty much planned out their recruitment years in advance knowing they'd get Guardiola. You'd never see Chelsea do that at all. Their recent success has all been with managers who burn bright and then fade quickly.

I haven't watched a lot of him but he was excellent away at Bayern. Really composed, Good in the air, good passer the ball, calm etc.

But again, can't speak for him overall.

What's the top end for you then?

I don't dissagree, but I'd say we're entering somewhat of a grey area having just done 45m quid on Romero....

Err because he wanted Chealsea and the other one didn't want to leave Germany. Again we can't will transfers into being. On the first one you mentioned once they want to go to the bridge...dead to Spurs fans( hello Luka)

(Isn't that what you were literally just doing re: Doherty, before spinning off into the Levy crap? ......Yup.)

I was talking about fan interest going quiet on here.

re: Kounde - IIRC Sevilla wanted to sell but he wanted to hold out for a CL club.

With the prospect of us having CL next season; I'm surpised not to see his name being chucked about again, but no.

I think anything above 50 million raises eyebrows. These days you pay 40m ish for a player and nobody even notices, so the pressure isn't really there. But I wouldn't say there's an arbitrary fee, just if the club are going to pay 50/60 million pounds for a young CB they better be damn confident about him fulfilling his potential.

Romero was in a good area fee wise. Serie A defender of the season, had been around a bit beforehand so wasn't a one season wonder, and again 42.5m isn't some colossal fee at the top end of football anymore. One of our better signings of recent years for sure.
