Perisic is a decent signing, good for squad depth but not this “statement signing” people are proclaiming it as.
He’s 33! Is he still as good a player as he was in his prime? What were his numbers like last season?

Like I said, good squad depth signing at most but I really hope we’re not signing him as a starter…
He's had one of his best seasons ever, with 8 goals and 7 assists from wingback. So what if he's 33, Benzema is going to win the Ballon D'Or at 34 this season. Chelsea signed a 36-year-old Thiago Silva last season and won the Champions League. Luka Modric has played an integral part in bringing Real Madrid to the final at 36.

This guy is a treble winner, has worked with Conte, and is definitely going to be starting over Sessegnon.

You read the room wrong here.

I don't believe anyone thinking this is a statement signing. It's more about being proactive and front foot in the window transfer for a change. Leaving us time and money to focus on bigger signings in latter stage of the window. (We're pursuing Bastoni too which is one of the best LCB as is, and very young to boost. This can be that statement signing).

As a wing back, he is just coming off his prime season. He's only 2 seasons as wing back. In Conte's first season at Inter, where Perisic already in his 30s, Conte felt Perisic didn't have time and willingness to learn a new role . Perisic proved Conte wrong on loan to Bayern and came back to help Conte to win Italian league. One thing Perisic has in him is determination and professionalism. Which is great trait we also want to add (further) to our squad.

With our current option for both wing back positions, Perisic would walk in to claim one IMO.

Read alot of comments from inter fans on him, a spurs fan asked them what to expect, some of the replies:

“Assuming he maintains fitness, you’ll get an engine on the left flank who excels at taking defenders on (he fleeced Alexander-Arnold at every opportunity) and can score bangers with either foot. If he had last year’s form and was 24 years old, he’d be worth 60m easy.

Also seems a great human. Gonna miss him. I support Everton in the PL, but next year I’ll definitely have a soft spot for Tottenham due to him and Conte”

“If he plays for you like he did for us last season, you’ll get one awesome player, maybe even the best in the world in this certain position.”

“An incredible athlete, dribbler, crosser, two footed player that never stops running and rarely gets injured. I’d say our best signing and player post treble years.”

We're not paying him 200k a week to sit on the bench. This guy is choosing us, over Inter, Juve, and Chelsea, and not because we offered him the chance to displace Steven Bergwijn.

He's not perfect, but he's about as good a fit, and quality as we could hope for in this position. Think back to the chances that Regulion wasted this season. Perisic would bury more than half of those, and score some bangers too.

His "prime" was only last season. He may flop but he's a very exciting signing. He would certainly be a starter.

It's a bit of a statement signing because we're making a tactically astute signing, for an experienced player, and even before the transfer window opens.

The real statement would be Bastoni, and the aggregate of all the players signed.

Looks like Bastoni himself is open to the move. This was always the big concern for me. He's apparently a die hard inter fan, and being Italian he might not fancy the prospect of cold rainy nights at... leeds?

As long as Inter don't take the piss, things are looking good.

Forster in, Perisic looks right behind, and not even June yet. This is the kind of business we need to be doing, getting the squad together early with time for Conte to mold them. 👍

He is an Elite footballer

Persic could be a great role model for Sessegnon too - Sess was 22 only days ago and still needs to refine the way he plays, having a master to learn from would be great.

With 5 subs allowed next season, and the intensity with which they bomb up and down the line in Conte's system, would not surprise me to see Conte subbing wing backs in many games, so two LWB's playing the same way would be ideal.
