How your transfer campaign is being judged in Italy: Tottenham's new course marked by "Conte's Way". Only ready and tested players. The imminent signing of Richarlison, as reported by Football London a step away from the Spurs, is the most significant proof that Antonio Conte has changed the club's prospects. It is clear that the voice of the Italian coach has enormous weight within the club. Conte never made a secret of his feelings to the management immediately after taking the lead of the Spurs, denouncing the lack of depth within the squad he had inherited. The management satisfied him in January. And also in June he travels on the same tracks. Conte wanted the bulk of his summer purchases to arrive before the Spurs rally. And it was largely satisfied with an injection of 150 million pounds to be placed on the market. The profile of the players has also been completely redesigned. For years at Tottenham they have hired young players on the verge of exploding, paying them even more than their real value was then. Also in this case Conte has revolutionized the philosophy: zero bets, only certainties. Translated on the market, it is better to invest the same money in well-established and important players rather than in promises to keep. It is no coincidence that Tottenham's first four signings in this transfer window, in order of arrival, are profiles oscillating between certainties and safe used. Perisic has won and has known Conte's way from his time with Inter. Forster has 133 Premier League appearances. Bissouma, who turns 26 in August, was one of the Premier League's best midfielders and was destined for one of the "Big six", finding a place at Tottenham. Richarlison who should arrive in a few hours needs no big introduction. A fab four with the lowest common denominator: tested. Three from the Premier League and one, Perisic who has proven everywhere that he can easily adapt to different leagues and countries.

That's a really interesting video. It makes sense that America would be quite a few accents given the huge size of the place, the many different ethnic groups, and ethnic/class segregation.

It seems that the UK was until recently a lot more fragmented, but with the internet, mass media, greater migration to cities etc. the most niche regional accents are disappearing. The grandparents' generation had greater regional differences than the kids today.

I know a ton pf parents who have moved from the South to the mid-West and have paid for their kids to have elocution lessons.

The phrase "rednecks" is a damning phrase that Southerners just cannot stand, it's hated. I have seen many a bar fight over the years when those words are used even when intended affectionately.

After a dozen or more years of living between the UK and US i can now read accents well aside from the North West.

Spence and Lenglet actually are quite similar transfers in my mind.

Ideally would probably prefer slightly better players coming in those positions of need. Spence is young and unproven, Lenglet in a bad run of form.

But what you're getting in both players is absolutely perfect tactical fits for Conte wants to do. Spence is an actual RWB who has everything in his locker that Conte wants in that position. Lenglet is a ball-playing left footer that we desperately need, Conte loves that profile of player and relied heavily on Bastoni's creativity in that position at Inter.

So you're bringing in two players who have the exact right skillsets, but question marks because of age/experience (Spence) and recent form (Lenglet). Because we have Conte and he's such a magician at player development and improvement, I really feel both are going to work out great. And that's the benefit of having a top level manager, you give them the right profile of player and they are going to get the most out of them.

We should remember how lucky we are to have one of the best managers in the world he has changed the mentality and profile of this club from top to bottom.

Whenever anyone questions the logic of buying Spence, think of this.
We have Perisic on the left. He doesn't need any of Conte's time. On the right, we have a prospect. A prospect in a position that Conte seems to specialise is improving.
