Transfers Summer 2022 Transfer Thread.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

You don’t think a proper CB would have been great? A RWB like Perisic on the left?

Of course they would (though as has been much discussed all summer; there's little out their on the RB front)..... Doesn't mean one can't acknowledge that we've done good business so far.

....And on topic; the fact that Bissouma has had a knock doesn't change that.

With two more quality players I would have been really happy.

Sure..... The difference between a good window and a perfect window IMO.

If Reggie, Ndombele, Winks, and GLC are here after the deadline we just need to terminate their contracts and save on salary.

How does that work?

If you terminate their contracts all you're doing is paying out their salary in a lump sum.

Also paying off contracts just because the club might not see them as assets is bad business, one man's trash and all that...

Good thing we play 38 games in the league season then and not 1
Sure, but it's still a bit disappointing that we're two injuries away from last season's starting 11. The early buzz of Bissouma and Perisic didn't quite lead to other transfers of that calibre in the rest of the window.

It's a good window but not especially out of the ordinary for a top club.

You don't get a bacterial infection from arthritis (Unless you get something like a cortisone injection and develop the infection from there, or are on immunosuppressants) but arthritis to develop from a bacterial infection is definitely possible. Most of them are reactive and will go away over time, but there is a possibility of causing a chronic one as well.

Just a medical tidbit.
Thanks for the clarification 😊

IMO the most realistic hope is that we manage to nab top 4, an FA/league cup and CL QF/SF. Anything more would be really exceeding expectations.

Next summer we will need to go big again. Make a decision on whether to persist with Sess, same with Spence.

We will need to look for a LCB again. Sell one of PEH or Benta and bring in someone truly world class to play in front of Bissouma.

Every chance Lloris will need to be replaced too.

Yes- I think we haven't gone for a semi-expensive LCB because the plan is to go for a top class one next year.

Airfixx Airfixx is right- everyone on the forum, me included, thought that Reguilon was a good signing.

He had just been the best LB in La Liga, and we beat United to his signature. Sadly he couldn't adapt well to the PL- that's a risk we always take with such transfers.
Reguilon was also in the Sevilla team that beat Conte's Inter in the Europa League final, and Regui was one of their outstanding performers throughout that cup run. So Conte would have known a lot about Reguilon before joining Spurs. Now he's seen him day in, day out, in training, he clearly doesn't rate him.

Gary Neville was, allegedly, a full back so knows something about playing the position. But he's changed his opinion too.

Dec 2020 (under Mourinho as a LB): Neville admitted that he likes the Spaniard [Reguilon] a lot, praising him for his energy, pace and aggression whilst noting how dangerous he is going forward.
“I like him,” said Neville. “Loads of energy, quick to the ball, aggressive in his defending and he flies forward at great pace,” he added.

March 2022 (under Conte as a LWB): Gary Neville was on Sky Sports for the game, and he picked up a major flaw for Spurs in how they want to play given what they have available, saying: “That system demands that you have really good wing-backs. Their wing-backs are nowhere near good enough. Nowhere near good enough. That system is critical in having good wing-backs and I think Reguilon, Doherty on the right, the quality’s not there, on both sides of the game, either going forward or defensively.

Gary Neville has absolutely raved about Sergio Reguilon

You could say the same thing about every team though?

What’s so dumb about that tweet is that later in the thread he puts in context that teams around us are improving and, if our two best signings are hurt, we haven’t.

I mean, if you take out Jesus and Zinchemko, Woolwich, our remaining signings are much better than theirs. If you take Koulubaily and Sterling off Chelsea, then all they’ve done is lost two CBs while adding nothing. If you take Haaland and Phillips off City, they are going backwards.

The only reason to say that our signings are underwhelming without Bissouma and Perisic, while not applying the same standard to the other teams, is because you just really want to rip Spurs.
Our signings are better than Woolwich and the chavs even with those people added in. All overrated, overpriced FIFA players

Can amortise it as restructuring costs over five years on the balance sheet

To add to the amortisation of paying for the installments for these players every year? Nah it's dead.

At the end of the day they are still assets, the club needs to make money on them because because they've invested money in them. It's just pointless ripping up their contracts when they could go somewhere and play thus maximising their value AND as I keep saying when this crops up, it's just terrible business and encourages players to come into the club and down tools after 2 years knowing they'll get paid off by the club.

I don't get the rush in wanting to ship them out, as long as they're not in the match day squads (if they're not in the managers plans) what's the issue?

No footballer wants to down tools and get paid off unless they are from France

Last PL matches before the world cup on 12 November (just over 3 months from start of season) and PL matches resume on Boxing Day 24 December (WC final itself is on 18 December - so any players going deep in WC is going to arrive back without any real break, those not going to WC should arrive back pretty rested.

The 6 week break will be an interesting new transfer window - signing players on international duty could be difficult but signing any players not going should be relatively easy.
