West Ham have agreed a deal for Paqueta and all we are served up is James Traore etc.
Better have something lined up otherwise bitterly disappointing.

I would be mad as fuck if we would be in for less talented Ndombelly... who is not wanted by better team then Wet Spam.

Fact that Aouar is most closely linked to Nottingham and Paqueta to Wet Spam just goes to show real level of these players from the team that finished EIGHTH in Ligue 1.

As a closing point it's worth remembering we are not looking to sign the players you lot have watched, we will be signing the players that AC/FP have watched and evaluated. They may well be the same person but very different players.

Considering some of the prices being banded about, 18m for one of the most creative players in Europe would be a bargain.

Why just "one of the most creative".

Turn it up few noches more.
"Best that has ever played the game".
"Genius like no other before him"
"Future Ballondor winner"
"Most talented human being ever lived" etc.

FFS man has never been a starter in Atalanta... :contefacepalm2:

I remember similar talks when Moura joined as well. That during one previous season, he was close to top for "chances created" or "key passes" for PSG.
Yea, what a wizard he has been. And lifted the whole team up on his own.

The players we are being linked with right now is so depressing.
We went into this window with such high hopes. Pau Torres, Bastoni, Bremer in defence. We’ve ended up with Lenglet, and we are still playing Davies and Sanchez.
Wing backs were a huge area that need upgrading. Perisic: great (for the short terms). But we are still stuck with Doherty, Royal, Sessingon (I really hope he comes good, on day) and meanwhile our other signing in this position is incapable of even making the bench.
We are crying out for ball playing creative central midfielder. Eriksen, Tielemens, Ruben Neves, James Ward Prowse, Paqueta were mentioned. We are now being linked with a 29 year old Atlanta player.
This was not the transfer window we were expecting. The players we have been slagging off for years are still here.
So much for the £150 warchest.
Yves and Richy (though not at that price (if only it were Jesus for cheaper)) I support as new additions. Persic too. The rest are pretty miserable.
I hope I’m proved wrong, but I suspect this will come back to bite us. It did after the Bale return window, in which everyone slagged me off for not thinking it was a brilliant window.
No, we're not crying out for a creative midfielder. You may be crying out for a creative midfielder, but it doesn't look like Conte is.

And as far as the positions you are complaining we didn't fill, have you seen what was available for these positions? Can you name me a player that was available and that we wanted that we didn't go for?

You couldn't make this shit up.

Well perhaps you can?

Trix:

One week to go and a lot going on. Lots of players being linked and a few more that have not made the media. I'd ignore all the "spurs are interested" headlines right now no matter where they are from, as we have put the feelers out for a lot of players. Especially home grown ones, agents, selling clubs, even people at the club are jumping on them and blowing them out of proportion. If FP likes a player, we've enquired, if AC likes a player we've enquired, if they are being put forward by their agent or one of our scouts and we think they are decent we've enquired, etc etc etc. Zaha, enquiry..... Dan James, enquiry..... Ziyech, enquiry.... Madison, enquiry..... I think you get the point, just because we've asked the question re their availability it certainly doesn't mean we are looking to sign them, because AC doesn't actually want any of them. It costs nothing to ask the question, and knowing the situation allows things to change quickly to best fit the jigsaw.

I have a couple of names we are looking at but even then I'm not convinced they'll go anywhere because FP has a lot of names on his list right now and besides the fact we know one of them needs to be Association trained it'll be a case of how the two we want in best fuse together, both in fit (one of the two HG at least) and also cost.

One thing I'm certain of that I can add is that we are not only looking in this country for the HG option, and have definitely had more than just enquiry contact with one player from overseas and this player has not hit the media yet.

As a closing point it's worth remembering we are not looking to sign the players you lot have watched, we will be signing the players that AC/FP have watched and evaluated. They may well be the same person but very different players.

Now try not to get this shut down ffs.

You’re going to get cooked by everyone but you’re spot on

Paqueta is shit man. If you’re impressed by that then you should head back to the forum you came from.
Is he really shit or are you just scarred by Lyon midfielders? FWIW I’ve never seen him as quite the star everyone on here did, but at £35m his versatility and dribbling would surely help us. He’s not a great playmaker but he’s a strong ball carrier, can play wing or 8 like Malinovskyi which I like, has good attacking instincts and interplay.

He does hang onto the ball quite a bit and isn’t quite as explosive as you’d expect for his skillset.

Always wondered where this lad would end up.

Interesting buy. A lot of money for a player who really hasn't produced the numbers you'd expect for that fee.

It's true that was his best year. He created 10 big chances and had 9 assists.

But he's had 509 crosses, only created 22 big chances, and only has 14 assists (and 8 goals) in his entire Premier League career.

I don't think it's dumb to set our sights higher, even for a backup. Moura is better offensively and defensively and can backup RWB better than Traore IMO.
First off, I’m not saying Traore is a good option or anything. But to measure it based on successful % of crosses is a bit flawed. Having watched Traore play, I can confidently say the majority of those crosses are coming from 1v1 (or 1v2) opportunities. He has to take a man on to get a cross off because he doesn’t play for a side that creates space for him.

Compare that to Royal who basically only crosses the ball when he’s unmarked.

Naturally, it is far easier to get a cross off when a defender is not 2 feet away trying to block it and taking away 70% of the crossing angle.

Traore’s strength is not his crossing technique but the attention he demands from the opposition. He almost always draws at least 2 defenders… which means one less defender somewhere on the pitch. All he has to do is float a ball to the far post and now there’s a numerical advantage in the box.

If that’s who they spunk the big money on, that’s a relief. Isak is really talented, uses his body well, has potential, but he isn’t a superstar, not the player who’s going to fire them to top 4 any time soon. I think he scored like 10 total goals last year for La Real. Good player not great one.
