Transfers Summer 2026 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I agree - IF (and this is unlikely if, I doubt we go for Wilson) this scenario would materialize, I think we should start the season with Savinho and Tel as starters. Wilson would rather be a depth option to step in if Tel does not produce.

Cause jury is very much out on him. He seems to have most of the important attributes, but in terms of end product the has not really achieved the needed level. In this hypothetical scenario I would see Wilson as "insurance policy" if Tel does not improve. But if he does, I could see us selling Wilson to a newly promoted team after one season.

Tel is of course raw. Seems one of those capable of the sublime quickly followed by the ridiculous...

He does have a tendency for poor decision making

However, he is also clearly talented, and personally I just really like his mentality

I would much, much rather give him a real go than buy in a bang average older player just for numbers

Considering odobert and tel are crap yes we do

Well - if this is the case - then we should sel Tel right now. And Odobert when he returns.
But the thing is - I do not see that happening. I assume we will give both of them 1 more season to prove themselves.
And if we are, then we could use an insurance policy like Wilson.

This attitude nearly got us relegated last season.
I dont expect the club to be that dumb again but who knows with Lange at the helm.

I kind of see what you mean, but it is not the same really.
Last season in wingers department we did not add anyone. We replaced Son with Kudus and that was it.
And before a CL season (!) .

In the (hypothetical) scenario I outlined - we would actually ADD 2 wingers. In a season with much less games. Though one could point out the selling of Johnson during last season. Then we could consider it adding 1 winger. And Kulusevski is closer to return he was last season.
Still not really the same situation.

So here is my thing - one thing is giving him go. Other is fully relying on him. My version suggest first option, yours the latter one.

Also as I pointed out - throughout his time in Fulham Wilson has been brilliant in terms of goal contributions.
Better than any of our players bar Richie and Madders. So "bang average" is just a random emotional response when in reality numbers describe Tel as far more bang average (goal contribution for every 250 minutes) than Wilson (154 minutes).

Bentancur needs to stay as he is probably our best CM, and the three months he missed compared to the 7 games where he returned to the team underlines that. He is a consistent senior player and provides on pitch leadership. Gray needs to stay (and play more as hi sunderstudy). Bergvall needs a loan as he will not get minutes and has not progressed at all in the last year. Sarr should be sold. Gallagher and Maddison are also senior players and leaders. We need a progressive passer to anchor our midfield and set the tempo. I am hoping we spend big on Adam Wharton or Locatelli. Bissouma will / should be released

Scott would be in competition with Gray and Bergvall when none of them will probably get many minutes. Charles would be another step in the direction of youthful potential that would not be realised (due to lack of minutes) or give us what we need right now.
Bentancur has real problems staying fit these days

He was ok in our relegation scrap when we produced mid table form to finish 17th. He was pretty fucking brutal for most of the season before his injury. I think he’d be solid under De Zerbi and he’s a good player but if an offer came in, it would be crazy to not consider it.

Be ruthless and not bogged down by recency bias

Harry wilson on a free is a bad idea. We aren't in multiple competitions next year. He'll just be blocking Tel/Odobert/Moore from opportunities.

We are still in transition. We aren't going to win the league next year. Now is a good time to give youngsters some sort of pathway. I'm not on about making the likes of Gray and Tel starters but they have to be in the match day squads every week and be given regular opportunities. We can't just block off every route. We need to be thinking 2/3 years ahead and not just putting everything off to try and get in the top 4

RW: NEW + recovering Kudus
LW: NEW + developing player (Tel/Odo... Sav (*) ? Take your pick)

(*I'm indifferent to Sav.... Just feels like more of the same; not a 'deliver now' player.)

e.g. Marmoush & Akliouche.

....Come next year we could have 2 first team worthy players in both positions to handle 4 comps.

+ Akliouche can also cover Maddison when required.

.....A lot easier to upgrade here than at ST.

But what is your suggestion then?

Instead of "blocking" Tel (meaning he would have to perform better than Wilson) we would be putting 100% of faith on soley on him. And so far he has shown very poor end product?
Is that the way to develop youngsters as a big club? Or maybe the competition actually puts him on the test?

Or to put it differently- having Tel as nailed on starter in start of next season is not an option. Cause so far -he has not been nowhere good enough.

Options are -
A - put more faith in him and bring in a backup plan like for example Wilson (does not have to be him, but good example)
B - bring in a certain starter and relegate Tel for bench role as base assumption
C - bring in a certain starter and get rid of Tel right away.

Cause again - having him only real option of starting winger is not an acceptable version.

People are making out like Wilson is a scrub, he's a good player but people aint liking it because it's not a fancy extravagant sexy name.

Relying on him... until Kudus is fit? Not the same as Relying on him... all season - for example.

And - Id be open to just getting a player we think improves on Kudus, thats how teams grow

I do think Wilson is completely average, and at 29, he is past his peak - and will be wanting a big deal etc. 3 years? Good money? I just dont think he is worth it, at all.

My comparison to Tel is purely that - Tel can do the job there, and is already our player, and probably deserves that chance.

I dont think theyre directly comparible players, one has had his career, one is just beginning. One is as good as he'll ever be, one still has huge room to grow...

If Wilson wasnt free - would anyone be after signing him?

Id argue not, my bet is people would have lists of better alternatives. I think thats the crux for me, Wilson is just so meh, and can only complicate the squad over the next few seasons

We need to buy senior, established players - not potential. We already have Bergvall and Gray in midfield and we have no European football next season to allow us to spread the minutes. We need a deep lying CM who is a progressive passer - not potential (like these two players mentioned). We need an established player. We then have Bentancur, Gallagher, Bergvall, Sarr, Gray competing for 1 starting box to box position alongside that player. I'd be selling Sarr and loaning Bergvall out, not buying more young potential.
Exactly the players who nearly got us relegated for the last two seasons.

I just want players that fit the managers style, regardless, if young or senior, home grown or from abroad...
