Agreed

It does raise questions around our young players.

Not their fault, of course, the squad has been built in such a cockeyed way I think there are going to be decisions made that wont sit well with everyone.

I like Tel and Odobert probably more than most on here, they do seem to get some stick. I dont think either are nailed on to succeed, but I do think both are talented and have potential - and should have a place in the squad

Similarly Grey and Bergvall, big potential, need to play

(and Vuskovic, Souza, Moore, LWB...)

To buy players to improve the team, to suit RDZ, to balance the squad (which is a mess) - Ive a sinking feeling we are going to end up either sacrificing some of these players - or just compromising them and stalling their careers

I understand we arent in a position to play them all, but I also cant help feeling very much against signings like Wilson for exactly these reasons

Our young players is all I hear. Is it possible they aren't all that good? I mean is that not within the realms?

I mean we are in real danger of being fearful if we do and fearful if we don't.

I think the issue is that we need a strong, competitive squad of players who will vie for places in the first team. All I am interested in.

Now, what that looks like I don't profess to know but the notion we play Bergvall, Vuskovic, Tel, Gray, and Odobert (once fit), presupposes competence and capability. Not for survival but for us to thrive.

£80m lmao

Market has gone even crazier this Summer.

Get Hackney in and in a year he's gonna be worth £60m seeing how silly this market is.

Saw elsewhere Boro wanting £25m for Hackney, also now in his final year

Brings a bit of context to the Hecke talk Id say....

I think Kudus/Wilson rotation is about right for where we are now and provided we make the big money upgrades elsewhere (LW / CF).

I would feel a lot more comfortable having a proven rotation option that can score goals then just taking a punt on Moore or Tel playing out of position. A club the size of Spurs should not be taking these punts. I'm also pretty sure RDZ won't tolerate it.

Fulham finished 11th, 11 points ahead of us - in a season where Wilson had the year of his life (which I doubt would continue)

Maybe thats where you think we are, but I dont, I think we'll be pushing higher

We would outgrow Wilson almost instantly, hence my saying he'll just bloat and complicate the squad

IF thats where youre at, fine - fair play to you - we'll just have to agree to disagree

100% chance not all will make it :D

Some will be brilliant (hopefully), some will be "decent", some just wont cut it - tis the nature of things, isnt it?

I havent said we have to play them all. In the post you quote - I literally state I think we're going to sell some or compromise some - which I think is a shame, thats all.

We have pursued a policy of signing young, exciting players, and then not actually having a structure or pathway for them to come into the squad/team

So I think there will be some bad news coming out of that (as someone who always appreciates young players coming up throught he club)

When Liverpool were linked to Bergvall in January (?) people were losing their shit over it, clearly he has a lot of potential, we didnt want to lose him.

Now, this summer, I suspect theres a very real possibility we either sell him or stunt him - because there just wont be room for him to get opportunities.

Obviously he has been injured a while, so theres that thing fans do of forgetting how good a player can be.

Could argue similar of Gray, or a number of other prospects

To be clear, Im not saying all have to play every game, nothing like it

All Im saying is, we buy someone like Wilson, then players like Tel, Odobert, Moore have an even tougher time making it with us.

And frankly, I dont think Wilson is worth that.

Someone else? Yeah, maybe - if we can pull in a Kang Lee In for example, then its impossible to refuse.

Put simply, Wilson would be an upgrade on our current RW rotation options hence I am okay with the idea.

The caveat being that the saving there goes towards a shithot LW, CF and CM.

Wilson was a starter for Fulham and would be rotation for us so the comparison is not relevant.

Also disagree that he bloats the squad. Basically none of the young prospects have a future as RW starting options. They all prefer playing off the left so we are actually paper thin at RW.

I read an interview with him today. He was a bit cryptic about his future. Some standard answer. "Let's focus on the world cup before I focus on my future."

Edit:About Bergvall

8 points off a Champions League spot no less.

They need to recruit better from abroad. Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford seem to do it season after season.

Theres only so many prem proven 70m a pop players we can buy.

Theres been so much money wasted.
I think they do recruit in a more joined up way, but there is also less pressure at those clubs to get results. Both Bournemouth and Brighton went on horrible runs last season and the season before because that’s what you’ll get with young players, inconsistency while they are finding their feet. Yet there was zero talk about it in the national media the way there would be when we are in horrible form.

When it all clicked they both went on a storming run of form. Would a Spurs manager get that grace? It might have cost them their job. Patience is a virtue with a young team but not all clubs are the same.

If Wilson wasnt free - would anyone be after signing him?

Id argue not, my bet is people would have lists of better alternatives. I think thats the crux for me, Wilson is just so meh, and can only complicate the squad over the next few seasons

You either did not read or did not try to understand.

My whole point was that he could be a temporary / opportunistic solution cause putting much hope on Tel is so far quite baseless.

Also.. just repeating "Wilson is just so meh" after I pointed out that he has in fact scored or assisted once in 154 minutes across number of seasons is so random. You can say that you don't subjectively rate him. But his goals and assist return is truly excellent. Unlike Tel's.
